SLIAC Players of the Week - March 21

This week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week are: Kyle Collins, from Westminster College; Kerrigan Dura, from Eureka College; Stephanie Lass, from Webster University; Trey Tigart, from Webster University; Chelsea Thornley, from Webster University; and Korie Vire, from Spalding University.

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
KORIE VIRE - SPALDING UNIVERSITY

Korie Vire claims his second SLIAC/Diamond Sports Hitter of the Week award after putting together five multi-hit games last week and finishing the week with a .520 batting average. Vire, a senior from Georgetown, Ill., notched a hit in all six of his team's games, going 13-for-25 while driving in five and swiping six bases. Vire had a pair of three hit games on the week, going 3-for-5 against Texas Lutheran; and 3-for-5 against Blackburn. Vire finished with a .556 on-base percentage and scored eight runs. He drove in three of his team's six runs in a 6-0 win over Schreiner and swiped three bags in game one of a three game series against Blackburn.


SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
TREY TIGART - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Trey Tigart, a junior, claims this week's SLIAC/Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week honors after helping his team pick up a conference win over Eureka College last week. Tigart worked six shut out innings in a 4-0 win over the Red Devils. He allowed just four hits in the game, walking none, and striking out 11 in notching the win. Tigart retired the first nine batters he faced as he picked up his first win of the year.




SLIAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KERRIGAN DURA - EUREKA COLLEGE

Kerrigan Dura, a freshman from Brimfield, Ill., powered a red hot Red Devil offense to six wins last week; hitting .500 and driving in 14 runners over an eight game span. Dura finished the week 15-for-30 with six multi-hit games including three three hit performances. Dura went 3-for-4 with four RBI in a win over Keystone and followed the next day with a 3-for-4 game against Sarah Lawrence. She added three hits against Alverno, driving in three. Dura also drove in five in an 8-3 win over Morrisville State. On the week Dura finished with an .867 slugging percentage, with one home run, two doubles, and three triples.

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
CHELSEA THORNLEY - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Chelsea Thornley, a sophomore from Clinton, Mo., helped the Gorloks pick up their second win of the season in a close 1-0 win over Rose-Hulman. Thornley threw all seven innings in the shut out win, scattering five hits and striking out two. Thornley allowed just three runners to reach second base in the game as she recorded her first win of the season.

 



SLIAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KYLE COLLINS - WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

Kyle Collins went undefeated last week in earning SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors. Collins recorded two wins in singles play and two more victories in doubles action. Playing at #2 singles, Collins picked up a 7-6, 6-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan and a 6-1, 6-4 win over Illinois College. He continued to pile on the wins, teaming with Adam Fuchs, to win 8-5 over Nebraska Wesleyan in the #1 doubles spot and 9-7 over Illinois College. Collins' wins against Illinois College helped the Blue Jays pick up their first dual match win of the season.

 


SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
STEPHANIE LASS - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Stephanie Lass becomes this week's SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week after notching two conference wins last week. Lass, playing at #6 singles, picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win. It marked the seventh consecutive singles win for Lass, who improves to 8-3 on the year. She followed with a victory at #2 doubles with teammate Jesse Steffens-Willis.

 

Other Notables:

  • Connor Coyne, Principia College (Baseball) - Coyne went 5-for-5 with two runs batted in during his team's 14-3 win over Alfred State.
  • Kali George, Eureka College (Softball) - George was a work horse in her team's 3-2 win over Wisconsin-Stout; going 11 innings and allowing just two runs.
  • Juan Granizo, Webster University (Men's Tennis) - Granizo recorded four wins last week, three at #1 singles and another at #1 doubles.
  • Sawyer Grow, Principia College (Baseball) - Grow picked up a win over Alfred State, going five innings and allowing just one run on five hits while striking out seven.
  • Alyson Hahn, Westminster College (Softball) - Hahn made three appearances last week, picking up two wins and allowing just four runs over 15 innings pitched.
  • Deion Hughes, Westminster College (Baseball) - Hughes made two starts last week, recording two wins and striking out 14 over 12 innings pitched.
  • Jeff Kammer, Webster University (Baseball) - Kammer picked up two hits in both games of a double header sweep of Webster, driving in three and hitting one home run.
  • Samantha Klein, Spalding University (Softball) Klein hit .500 on the week with one home run and 11 RBI while scoring eight runs.
  • Leah Schaefer, Principia College (Softball) - Schaefer hit .407 on the week, finishing with seven triples in eight games.
  • Amber Tepen, Westminster College (Softball) Tepen hit .538 last week with seven RBI and two stolen bases.
