SLIAC Players of the Week - April 25

This week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week are: Paige Cooley, from Principia College; Tessa Johanning, from Webster University; Nathan Potts, from Greenville College; Vince Santarsiero, from Fontbonne University; Marideth Tate, from Greenville College; Chelsea Thornley, from Webster University; Kyle Uhrich, from Webster University; Jarrid Williams, from Greenville College; and Molly Works, from Greenville College.


SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
KYLE UHRICH - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Kyle Uhrich is this week's SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week after helping extend the Gorloks winning streak to seven games with a double header sweep of Principia. Uhrich,a junior from St. Louis, Mo., picked up four hits in the double header, hitting three runs and driving in six. In game one of the day Uhrich went 1-for-3 with an RBI. He concluded the day with a 3-for-5 performance in game two, hitting three home runs with five runs batted in. Uhrich's three long balls tied a program record and gives him five home runs in his last five games and nine on the season. He is currently tied for the conference lead in home runs and is second in RBI.


SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
VINCE SANTARSIERO - FONTBONNE UNIVERSITY

Vince Santarsiero, a junior from Gainesville, Fla., is this week's SLIAC/Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week. Santarsiero recorded a no-hitter last week in his team's 5-0 win over Eureka. He went all seven innings in the game, walking just two, while striking out seven. Santarsiero retired the final 16 batters of the game to record his third win of the season. He currently ranks in the top ten in the conference in both innings pitched and strikeouts this season.

 


SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
TESSA JOHANNING - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Tessa Johanning, a sophomore from Sullivan, Mo., is the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week. Johanning helped the Gorloks extend their winning streak to 11 games with a win over Robert Morris-Springfield and a double header sweep of Iowa Wesleyan before seeing the streak end against Coe. Johanning hit .438 on the week with one home run and seven runs batted in during five games. She had three multi-hit games on the week including a 2-for-3 performance in game two against Iowa Wesleyan; adding a grand slam and finishing with five RBI. Johanning finished the week 7-of-16 at the plate with a .750 slugging percentage.

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
CHELSEA THORNLEY - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Chelsea Thornley is this week's SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week after notching two wins for the Gorloks last week. Thornley, a sophomore from Clinton, Mo., came on in relief against Robert Morris-Springfield; throwing 3 2/3 innings to pick up the win in the high scoring 15-12 affair. She recorded five strikeouts and allowed four hits, ending a rally in the fourth. Thornley then took the circle against Iowa Wesleyan, picking up a win in a five inning game. Against the Tigers she allowed just one run and five hits while striking out three. On the week Thornley finished with eight strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings with a 4.04 earned-run average.

SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
PAIGE COOLEY - PRINCIPIA COLLEGE

Paige Cooley continues her impressive freshman season as she picks up her third SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors this year. Cooley, from Traverse City, Mich., rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at #1 singles over Greenville College. Cooley improves to 17-1 overall in singles action this season. She also added an 8-3 win with her partner Caitlin Carney as the #1 doubles team for Principia.

 


SLIAC MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
JARRID WILLIAMS - GREENVILLE COLLEGE

This week's SLIAC Men's Field Performer of the Week is Jarrid Williams from Greenville College. Williams, a junior from Lovejoy, Ga., had a pair of top three finishes at the Rose Hulman Twilight Meet. Williams placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 45'3", his second best jump of the season. He also took third place in the long jump with a mark of 20'9.25", ranking him fourth in the conference on the spring season.



SLIAC MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
NATHAN POTTS - GREENVILLE COLLEGE

Nathan Potts is the SLIAC Track Performer of the Week after an impressive day at the Rose Hulman Twilight Meet. He finished 4th in the 800 meter race, setting a personal record in just his second year competing in the event. Potts also took second place in the 4x400 relay that finished in 3:21.63; nearly eight seconds better than the nearest SLIAC relay team.

 


SLIAC WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
MARIDETH TATE - GREENVILLE COLLEGE

Marideth Tate, a sophomore, is this week's SLIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Tate had two top five finishes at the Rose Hulman Twilight Meet last weekend. Tate took second place in the hammer throw with a distance of 137'06", a personal best and the longest distance in the SLIAC this season. She also finished fifth in the shot put at the event with a distance of 35'1.75", ranking third in the conference this season.

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
MOLLY WORKS - GREENVILLE COLLEGE

Molly Works, a senior from Lenzburg, Ill., is the SLIAC Women's Track Performer of the Week after taking over the top spot in the conference in the 3000 steeplechase event this season. Works placed first at the Rose Hulman Twilight Meet in the event with a time of 11:56, a season best by 19 seconds and a conference best by over a minute.

  • Erica Burney, Westminster College (Softball) Went 8-for-14 at the plate in a pair of double headers last week, finishing with a .571 batting average.
  • Zoe Burton, Webster University (Track and Field) Set program record in the discus throw with a distance of 115'6".
  • Zach Gyuricza, Webster University (Track and Field) Was a part of three record setting performances last week, setting new program records in the long jump, 400 meter hurdles, and 4x400 meter relay.
  • Meghan Illig, Webster University (Track and Field) Set school record in the 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles.
  • Jordan Kaden, Webster University (Track and Field) Set program records in both the 400 meter dash (49.72) and 4x400 meter relay (3:23.06).
  • Jessie Kuykendall, Westminster College (Track and Field) Broke school record in the 10,000 meter run by almost 20 seconds, finishing in a time of 40:08.76.
  • Nate Miller, Greenville College (Baseball) Went 10-for-18 on the week, driving in nine runs and scoring six over five games.
  • Matt Mokriakow, Blackburn College (Baseball) Hit .700 in a three game series against Greenville, going two stolen bases and three RBI.
  • Jonah Moore, Greenville College (Baseball) Picked up a seven inning win over Principia, allowing just one run while striking out eight.
  • Sarah Rice, Webster University (Tennis) Went 3-0 last week, finishing the regular season with an undefeated conference record; splitting time between #3 and #4 singles.
  • Shane Witters-Hicks, Principia College (Track and Field) Set a personal best by ten seconds, finishing the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:37.83.
