SLIAC Players of the Week - October 26

This week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week are: Raul Belman, Filip Delija, Cierra Howard, Allyson Mitchell, Dee Dee Sliter, and Demi West.

SLIAC MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK (OFFENSIVE)
FILIP DELIJA - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Delija, a freshman from Chicago, Ill., stepped up his offensive output last week, totaling five goals in his team's three games. Delija scored his team's lone goal against Spalding, putting his team up just two minutes into the game. Delija netted his first collegiate hat trick in a win over Iowa Wesleyan, scoring on just four shots on goal. In a win over Findlandia Delija scored the game-tying goal with then sparked a three goal barrage by the Gorlok offense. He finished the week with five goals and 10 points.

SLIAC MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK (DEFENSIVE)
RAUL BELMAN - WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

Belman, a junior from Celaya, Mexico, made two saves in his only appearance on the week in net for the Blue Jays, a 6-0 win over Principia. Belman picked up the two saves while playing just over 56 scoreless minutes. The win set a new Blue Jays record for Belman, as he became the program's career and season leader in wins. This marks the third time this season Belman has won the SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week award.


SLIAC WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK (OFFENSIVE)
DEE DEE SLITER - SPALDING UNIVERSITY

Sliter, a junior from Louisville, Ky., paced the Golden Eagles attack in two wins last week. Trailing 1-0 against Webster Sliter helped set up the tying goal with just over two-minutes left in regulation. She then tallied the game winner from 22-yards out in overtime. Against Blackburn Sliter netted two goals including the game-winner. On the week she finished with three goals and one assist in two wins, scoring all three goals on just three shots.

SLIAC WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK (DEFENSIVE)
DEMI WEST - SPALDING UNIVERSITY

West, a junior from Sheffield, England, helped her team to a pair of conference wins last. West led the Golden Eagle defense that helped shut down the league's leading offense and hand Webster their first conference loss this season. West and the Golden Eagles followed with a 5-0 shutout win over Blackburn, holding the Beavers to just four shots while chipping in with an assist in the win.

SLIAC VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK (OFFENSIVE)
ALLYSON MITCHELL - GREENVILLE COLLEGE

Mitchell, a sophomore from Gurnee, Ill., is this week's SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Mitchell helped her team to three wins on the week including two conference wins. Mitchell recorded double digit kills in all three matches, starting with 13 in a sweep of Fontbonne. She followed with a weekly high of 16 kills in a win over Lincoln Christian and concluded the week with 15 kills in a sweep of Blackburn. On the week she averaged 4.4 kills per set, hitting .268 with a total of 44 kills and 14 errors on 112 total attacks.

SLIAC VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK (DEFENSIVE)
CIERRA HOWARD - IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY

Howard, a junior from San Clemente, Calif., is this week's SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. Howard was all over the court in her team's two conference matches, totaling over 30 digs in each match. Against MacMurray Howard finished with 33 digs. She followed with 35 digs against Principia, giving her six 30 dig performances this season. She averaged 6.8 digs on the week and currently leads the conference in digs per set. This is the second time this season Howard has won the weekly award.

Other Notables:

  • Lexi Collier, Westmisnter College (Volleyball) Collier was nearly unstoppable in her team's win over Transylvania finishing with 15 kills, while hitting .538, and nine total blocks for 21 total points. 
  • Sophia Hathaway, Principia College (Volleyball) Hathaway had a pair of double-doubles last week with 19 kills and 18 digs against Illinois Tech and 16 kills and 13 digs against Iowa Wesleyan.
  • Richie Hershkowitz, Greenville College (Men's Soccer) Hershkowitz was a standout on both offense and defense last week, anchoring a defense that allowed just one shot in a shutout win over MacMurray while also adding two goals.
  • Jonny Madrid, Greenville College (Men's Soccer) Madrid was busy in his team's win over MacMurray; recording two goals and two assists.
  • Lexa Mahr, Iowa Wesleyan University (Volleyball) Mahr recorded two double-doubles last week; finishing with 16 kills and 14 digs against MacMurray and 15 kills and 19 digs against Principia.
  • Barbara Nigro, Greenville College (Women's Soccer) Nigro finished with two goals and three assists in her team's two games, playing a role in five of her team's six goals on the week.
  • Lauren Pratt, Webster University (Women's Soccer) Pratt recorded a hat trick in her team's win over Iowa Wesleyan, also adding an assist.
  • Tripp Sheehan, Westminster College (Men's Soccer) Sheehan accounted for half his team's goals in a win over Principia, with two goals and one assist.
