Westminster Head Trainer Receives National Award

Westminster Head Trainer Receives National Award

Westminster's head athletic trainer Josh Thompson received the William T. Griffin Award for outstanding leadership in legislative advocacy from the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) on June 22 at the Annual Meeting.

The William T. Griffin Award was created by the Governmental Affairs Committee in honor of Bill Griffin, a long-time active member of the NATA. The award highlights a NATA athletic trainer that reflects Bill's spirit and example, including: motivating other athletic trainers to increase political involvement, leading by example and showing that one person can make a difference, demonstrating strategic thinking in organizing a legislative or grassroots campaign, initiating coalitions to maximize advocacy efforts, and individually and personally raising the visibility and influence of the profession.

Josh has 13 years experience as a head athletic trainer and has served as the head of athletic training and performance at Westminster since 2005. At Westminster, he coordinates the needs of an 18-sport athletic program. On the side, he is the Missouri Athletic Trainers' Association (MoATA) Governmental Affairs Chair and was a prominent contributor in the Missouri's Interscholastic Youth Sports Brain Injury Act. He is also on the State and Regional Planning Committee for the Department of Health's Annual Sports Concussion Seminars.

The NATA, founded in 1950, is the professional membership association for certified athletic trainers and others who support the athletic training profession. It currently has more than 35,000 members worldwide.

This is just the second year the William T. Griffin Award has been recognized. To see the award on the NATA website, visit here
