Webster Women's Soccer Earns 4th Straight NSCAA Ethics Award (January 4, 2016)
The Webster University women's soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2015 Bronze Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award.  The Gorloks were the only team in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to qualify for the award in 2015.....MORE

AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn women's basketball team snapped a four game losing streak with a 63-54 win over Principia on Tuesday night. The Beavers outscored the Panthers by five points in both the third and fourth quarters to pull away for the win. Candace Pollock led all scorers with 21 points, hitting seven three pointers. Danae Smith added 13 points, seven rebounds, and six assists as the Beavers move to 2-3 in conference play.

On January 16 Eureka College will dedicate its newly renovated basketball court, honoring former head coach Dave Darnall. Darnall worked at Eureka College for 30 years, including 20 years as the men's basketball coach. In 1994, his final season, he guided the Red Devils to an NAIA Division II National Championship. Darnall finished his coaching career with a 383-151 record. The ceremony will take place at halftime of the men's game, set to begin at 3 p.m.

The Fontbonne baseball team will hold their annual Trivia Night on February 13th at 7 p.m. The event will take place on campus, at Lee McKinney Court, and will help support the baseball team's spring trip to Orlando, Florida. The Greenville women's basketball team outscored Spalding by six in the final quarter of Saturday's game to pick up a 71-61 win. The Panthers offense was consistent, putting up 18 points in each of the final three quarters of the win. Coley Baker led the team with 19 points, going 8-of-11 from the field. Meredith Crosier added 14 points off the bench. Greenville has now won three of their last four games and are 3-1 in SLIAC play.

After suffering just their second loss of the season in their final game before the new year, the Tigers women's basketball team responded with a 71-42 win over Principia last Saturday. The Tigers got off to a fast start with a 20-8 lead after one quarter. Rachel Williams led all players with 22 points, adding nine rebounds and six assists. Kaylee Moselesy added 18 points with six three pointers. Iowa Wesleyan improves to 9-2 overall and remains undefeated in conference action at 4-0.

The MacMurray men's basketball team suffered a 75-73 loss to Eureka last Saturday in their return to conference action, giving them back to back losses for the first time this season. The Highlanders sit at 2-2 in conference play and will face Greenville and Webster this week. Brent Long leads the team in scoring this season at 19.4 points per game while Deavis Johnson is second in the SLIAC in rebounding at 10.0 per game.

Principia's Adaku Anumu has been nominated for Hero Sports' Hero of the Week after his performance in a loss to Iowa Wesleyan last Saturday. Anumu netted 32 points while grabbing five rebounds in the 84-74 loss. You can vote for Anumu in the nation wide award by submitting your vote HERE Anumu is averaging 21.3 points per game this season, tops in the SLIAC.

The Spalding men's basketball team has won back to back games for the first time this season after wins over Oglethorpe and Greenville. In the win over Greenville the Golden Eagles topped the century mark, winning 108-85.  Five players scored in double figures for Spalding with three topping 20 points. Rylan Rowe and Brandon Goeing led the way with 21 points each while Nick Trisko finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

The Webster women's basketball team holds the longest active winning streak in the SLIAC with three straight wins. The Gorloks have wins over Rust, Blackburn, and Eureka to improve to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the SLIAC this season. They continue a season long four game home stretch this week with games against Fontbonne and MacMurray.

There is a three way tie for first-place in the SLIAC Men's Basketball standings, with Westminster one of three teams at 3-1 in conference play. The Blue Jays suffered their first conference loss last week, a 63-61 loss to Fontbonne, that extended their losing streak to three games. The Blue Jays will face Eureka and Blackburn this week as they look to get back into the win column.
