AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn men's basketball team nearly pulled off an upset over Iowa Wesleyan last week, coming up short 82-81. The Beavers trailed by just one with 41-seconds left. The Beavers had three possessions at the end but were unable to get a shot off on any of their trips. Jamie Moore led the Beavers with 22 points and six rebounds.
Eureka's Shea Feehan helped lead the Red Devils to an 83-75 win over Blackburn last Saturday at home, extending the Red Devils home record to a perfect 6-0 on the season. Feehan finished the game with 19 points in just 18 minutes off the bench, going 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. Feehan was honored by Hero Sports as their Hero of the Week for his efforts the previous week.
The Fontbonne men's and women's soccer teams will hold their annual Trivia Night on Saturday, February 27th. The event will be just $20 per person for tables with 8-10 people. Admission includes drinks and light snacks and participants may bring their own food but no outside alcohol. To RSVP or for more information email bhoener@fontbonne.edu
The Greenville women's basketball team has won five straight games, the longest active streak in the SLIAC, to improve to 11-4 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The Panthers are on the road this week against Eureka (Wednesday) and Webster (Saturday). The five game winning streak is the team's longest since winning five in a row early in the 2012-13 season.

The last remaining undefeated women's basketball team in conference play fell last weekend when Iowa Wesleyan fell 72-63 to Greenville. The Tigers fell behind 10-0 to start the game and were never able to recover. The Tigers shot just 37-percent in the game and were out rebounded by 15. Rachel Williams was the lone Tiger to score in double figures with 26 points. The Tigers return to action against Webster and MacMurray this week.

Last weekend the MacMurray volleyball team held their annual awards banquet, remembering the 2015 season and honoring several players. This past fall marked the first time in program history the Highlanders had back to back double digit win seasons since 1998-99. Morgan Hauser (kills), Alexa Boyer (assists), and Aly Ferrari (digs) all made their mark in the Highlander record books. For a full list of team award winners click HERE
The Principia women's basketball team nearly knocked off Westminster on Tuesday night, falling 65-55. The Panthers welcomed back Rachel Perera and used that return to spark the team to an early lead. The Panthers led 15-11 after the first quarter but saw their lead evaporate in the third quarter. Kara Johnson led all players with 27 points and 13 rebounds while Perera finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Spalding men's basketball team has won three in a row, after topping Principia, MacMurray, and Webster over the last week and a half. The Golden Eagles are now 7-8 overall and 5-3 in the SLIAC with their longest winning streak of the season. They have a pair of road games this week as they look to continue their winning streak. They face Blackburn on Thursday and will travel to Westminster on Saturday.

Webster University's Kyle Uhrich has been named to the D3baseball.com's preseason All-American team.  Uhrich, a first baseman from Webster Groves, MO (Webster Groves HS), was named to the All-American Second Team after leading NCAA Division III in home runs last year with 17 and adding 63 runs batted in while hitting .354.
The Westminster women's soccer team is set to host the second annual Winter ID Camp on February 7, 2016, at 1:30-3:30 pm. The 2016 Winter ID Camp is a collegiate run camp for U15-U18s, including goalkeepers, at the Moohlah Shriner Facility in St. Louis, Missouri. To register or for more information, please visit here.
