SLIAC Men's Tennis Highlight Video (April 23, 2016)

Westminster's Kiso Wins Outstanding Student Award (April 23, 2016)
In April, Westminster student Amanda Kiso '17 was recognized for her excellence in peer education at the Meeting of the Minds Regional Prevention Conference, receiving the Outstanding Student Award for Region IV West for the BACCHUS/NASPA initiatives.....MORE

Jared Jones, a senior on the Blackburn baseball team, is the 2016 SLIAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Jones, from Mitchell, Ind., is a four year member of the baseball team and serves as the manager of the athletic program at Blackburn College. He is the first male athlete from Blackburn to receive the conference award. For more information click HERE

The Eureka softball team tied the program reord for wins last week and currently sit at 30-6 overall. The 30 wins tie them for the program record which was set in 1990 and matched in 1996. This year's Red Devils still have four more regular season games on their schedule and a shot at the postseason. They are currently in second place in the SLIAC standings with a 12-4 mark.

Fontbonne junior pitcher Vince Santarsiero became just the fourth Griffin pitcher since 2010 to record a no-hitter, when he accomplished the feat last week in a win over Eureka. Santarsiero went seven innings, striking out seven while walking just two. He retired the final 16 batters of the game and was named the SLIAC Pitcher of the Week and to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.

The Greenville softball team has just one more series in the regular season to try and secure a postseason berth. The Panthers are 11-5 in the SLIAC, tied for third place and just one game up from the fifth place team, with the top four teams advancing to the tournament. They are on the road against Spalding University this Saturday, marking their eighth consecutive road game to close out the regular season.

For the second consecutive year Iowa Wesleyan hosted the Southeast Iowa Special Olympic Spring Games. Iowa Wesleyan welcomed over 180 Special Olympic athletes as well as 75 coaches, varous volunteers, and numerous supporters. Iowa Wesleyan partnered with Special Olympics as a part of NCAA Division III SAAC partnership with Special Olympics. For the full news release on the story click HERE

The MacMurray softball team will close out their 2016 season on Saturday with a double header at Blackburn College. Game times are set for 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. The Highlanders are coming off a split double header against Greenville and are currently 6-10 in the SLIAC. MacMurray has been led this season by junior Tiffany Hazelwonder. She is hitting .397 with two home runs and 15 runs batted in, all team highs.

The Principia men's tennis team won their third straight SLIAC Tournament title, defeating Greenville 5-1 in the championship match. In addition Joey Sander was named the SLIAC Player of the Year while Julian Kitchingman picked up Newcomer of the Year honors. Both players earned First Team All-Conference honors in singles, as did Broday Swan and Dan Wagstaff.

The Spalding baseball team has moved into first-place in the SLIAC East Division by winning five of their last seven conference games. The Golden Eagles are on the road for their final two weekends, facing Webster this Friday and Westminster on Saturday, May 7. Webster and Westminster are in first and second place in the West Division, and along with Spalding, are the only teams with 20 or more wins this season.

Webster junior Kyle Uhrich had a game to remember last weekend, hitting three home runs in game one of a double header against Principia. Uhrich, a first baseman, hit a home run in his first three at bats of the game; tying a program record. Uhrich tied for the nation's lead in home runs last year, hitting 17; and currently has nine this season.

Westminster senior Kasey Gatson was chosen as the 2016 SLIAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and will receive the post-graduate scholarship. Gatson, a member of the Blue Jay basketball team, holds a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a secondary business education major. She will be honored at the annual SLIAC Awards Banquet.
