Princpia Panthers Claim 2016 Women's Tennis Title  (April 30, 2016)
Principia College added to their conference record, winning the 2016 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Women's Tennis tournament; their 19th in program history. The tournament title is the Panthers third in the last four years and is the most for any program in any conference sport.....MORE

2016 SLIAC Softball Tournament Preview (May 3, 2016)
This weekend four teams will battle for the right to be called 2016 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Champion. The tournament field will included Eureka College, Fontbonne University, Greenville College, and Westminster College.....MORE

SLIAC SPRING STANDINGS

AROUND THE SLIAC

Blackburn College will hold its 8th annual Crawfish Boil fundraiser, benefiting the Beaver baseball program. The event will take place Saturday, May 21 at the Wood Duck Bar and Grill in Carlinville, Mo. and on Sunday, May 22 at DH Brown's in downtown Springfield. Along with the boil the day includes food, karaoke, crawfish races, and raffles. It's just $30 for unlimited soft drinks, beer, and crawfish.

Eureka College recently held their Golden Tornado Awards banquet, honoring student-athletes for the 2015-16 year. Among those being honored were Kerrigan Dura, for Outstanding Female Athlete; Lexi Dooley, for Female Newcomer of the Year; Dan Harrod, for Fan of the Year; Emily Camden, for Play of the Year and Miss Red Devil; Sam and Shea Feehan for Performance of the Year; and Michael Sain, for Mr. Red Devil of the Year. Fontbonne University held their annual awards banquet for the 2015-16 season, handing out several prestigious awards. Among those honored were Amanda Maloney as the Lee McKinney Scholar-Athlete; Emmie Haring and Madi Leonard for Mary Schoendienst Athletic Award; and Alex Smith for Angelo Simaku award. The Greenville track and field team is primed for this weekend's SLIAC Invitational. The Panthers men's team finished in second place at Illinois College Twilight Invite while the women's team took first place. Chelsea Giles led the women with four second place finishes while Janisha Pealer finished second in the long jump and Sierah Ruffner was second in the high jump. On the men's side Jarrid Williams placed first in both the long jump and triple jump.

The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team had their 2016 home schedule come to a close last weekend in a double header against MacMurray, dropping both games. The Tigers fell 10-6 in game one and 8-0 in the night cap. Iowa Wesleyan pounded out nine hits in game one with Justin Katich, Tanner Anderson, and Matt Murphy all picking up two hits a piece. Iowa Wesleyan closes out their 2016 regular season with a three game series against Fontbonne in St. Louis, Mo. beginning Thursday.

The MacMurray baseball team is fighting for a postseason spot in the SLIAC tournament. Currently the Highlanders are in second place in the East Division with a 13-7 conference record, one game ahead of Spalding for the final spot. The Highlanders close out their regular season with a double header at Principia and need just one win to secure the final postseason berth in the conference tournament.

The Principia tennis program made it two for two on back to back weekends as the women's team joined the men's team in capturing the SLIAC tournament title. The women defeated Webster 5-1 in the championship match with Paige Cooley leading the way. Cooley, a freshman, went undefeated this season in conference play; dropping just one match overall and cruised to wins in the tournament to pace the Panthers.

Spalding's Amber Kilburn picked up SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week honors this week. Kilburn, a freshman from Salem, Ind., notched a complete game win over Iowa Wesleyan in a 2-0 win. She allowed just six hits and struck out three in the victory. Kilburn worked out of a jam in the seventh inning, stranding the tying runs on base by recording a pair of pop-ups to end the game.

The Webster baseball Gorloks split a double header with #14 ranked Concordia-Chicago, dropping game one 4-3 in 15 innings but rallying for a 6-2 win in game two. In game two's win, with the score tied at 2-2, Webster took the lead on an RBI single by Mike Golich and a passed ball. Johnny Lord picked up the win going seven innings and striking out 10. Webster is currently ranked fourth in the latest regional rankings.

Westminster has moved up the regular season finale for the baseball team. Their series finale against Spalding will now be played Friday, May 6 due to graduation. Game times remain 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for the double header. Westminster is currently in second place in the SLIAC West Division standings and have secured a spot into the SLIAC Tournament May 12-14.
