Webster Athletics Serves the Community (October 9, 2015)
Once again, the Webster University Athletic Department teams and staff helped out various organizations, including schools, agencies, and parks, throughout the St. Louis area on October 7.  Webster Works Worldwide (WWW), is a University-based community service project that was started in 1995 and saw its 21st straight year of the Webster community coming together to help those in need.....MORE

AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn volleyball team recorded their first two wins of the season last week, winning back-to-back matches. They notched their first win in a 3-0 victory over St. Louis College of Pharmacy and two days later recorded their first conference win with a 3-2 victory over MacMurray. Emily Schroeder leads the team with 2.15 kills per set this season while Marlee Lindstrom is averaging 4.93 digs per set.
The Eureka soccer programs each picked up their first conference wins of the year when they swept Iowa Wesleyan. The Red Devils men's team won 3-1 behind a hat trick from James Bowen and are now 6-6 overall this season. The Eureka women's team picked up a 2-1 win with goals from Macayela Monroe and Riley Francis to improve to 4-9-1 overall this season.
Fontbonne senior Mandy DeWitt reached a volleyball milestone earlier this week when she recorded her 2,000th career assist. DeWitt totaled 10 assists in her team's match against Lincoln Christian, giving her 2,008 assists over her four year career. Fontbonne is currently 11-16 overall and in fourth place in the SLIAC with a 9-5 record. They have a week off before getting back into conference play.
The Greenville men's soccer team remains just one of two undefeated conference teams this year after extending their winning streak to four games. The Panthers picked up wins over Spalding and Fontbonne last week and defeated Principia earlier this week. Greenville is now 8-7 overall and 5-0 in the SLIAC. They will conclude this week's schedule against Eureka on Saturday.

The Tigers volleyball team is currently on a two match winning streak and have won three of their last five matches. The Tigers wrapped a quad match over the weekend with a win over Blackburn and continued their winning streak with a 3-0 win over Eureka. The Tigers hit .212 as a team in the win over Eureka with Cassandra Schwamborn leading the way with nine kills and Maggie Earney finishing with 36 assists.

The Highlander soccer programs are on the road Thursday when they face Spalding University in a men's and women's double header. The Highlanders will return home on Saturday to host Webster University in another men's and women's double header. MacMurray closes out their season by playing three of their final five games at home including the season finale on October 31 against Principia.
The Principia volleyball team defeated MacMurray in their last outing, a 3-2 win on Tuesday night. In the win Molly Moser finished with 12 kills and 22 assists while Sophia Hathaway led the team with 14 kills. Mia Gill recorded 32 digs. Principia is now 9-10 overall and 6-7 in the SLIAC. They have a week off before returning to action against Blackburn.

The Spalding women's soccer team swept the conference Player of the Week awards as Dee Dee Sliter was named Offensive Player of the Week and Alyssa Logan was named Defensive Player of the Week. Sliter recorded four goals in two games, including a hat trick in a win over Iowa Wesleyan. Logan helped the Golden Eagles record a pair of shutout wins, limiting their opponents to just seven total shots.

The Webster women's soccer team has won four straight games and sit alone at the top of the SLIAC standings with a perfect 5-0 conference record. The Gorloks defeated Westminster 2-1 on Tuesday night, handing the Blue Jays their first conference loss this season. Webster is now 9-4 overall and return to action on Saturday at MacMurray.
The Westminster volleyball team handed Greenville their first conference loss of the season, sweeping the Panthers 3-0. Westminster was led by Hannah Marshall's 14 kills while Bridget Ringwald finished with seven aces. Westminster extends their winning streak to 10 matches and improves to 16-5 overall and 12-2 in the SLIAC.
