Eureka Volleyball Visits Local YWCA (October 25, 2015)
Last night the Eureka College  volleyball team visited the YWCA in Bloomington, IL. YWCA was hosting "Lights after School," giving parents the opportunity for their children to interact with YWCA staff and volunteers while parents had the opportunities to listen and ask questions to state Representative about the budget cut that are taking place.....MORE

AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn soccer teams picked up a pair of wins over MacMurray on a rain soaked field Tuesday. After trailing 1-0 at halftime the Beavers men's team struck for six second-half goals led by Steven Njuba's hat trick. The women's team netted five goals in each half of their game for a 10-0 win with Christy Hobbs striking for three goals.
The Red Devil men's soccer team suffered a tough loss to Harris-Stowe last week. After jumping out to an early lead twice in the game the Red Devils were unable to hold off the Hornets, falling 4-2. Eureka took the lead when Brady Thomas converted on a penalty kick just eight-minutes into the game. After the Hornets tied the game up at the 16-minute mark Tim Johnson put Eureka back on top with a goal. However the Hornets scored three unanswered goals to pick up the win.
The Fontbonne volleyball team recorded their 10th conference win of the season on Tuesday night with a 3-1 win over Blackburn. The 10 wins this season mark the first time the Griffins have reached double digit conference wins since 2007. Fontbonne is currently 12-17 overall and battling for the fourth and final spot in the SLIAC Tournament. They close out their season against Greenville and Eureka.
The Greenville women's soccer team kept pace with three other teams in chasing the top spot in the league. Greenville defeated MacMurray 3-0 last Saturday to improve to 6-1 in the SLIAC. They are just a half game behind Webster in the standings and are one of four teams with just one loss on the season. Greenville will close out their regular season with road games against two of those schools, Westminster and Webster.

Iowa Wesleyan junior libero Cierra Howard was named the SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading her team's defensive efforts last week. Howard totaled 68 digs in two matches, with 33 digs against MacMurray and 35 digs against Principia. Howard is currently averaging 5.98 digs per set this season, tops in the SLIAC.
Highlander senior volleyball captain Alexa Boyer reached the 2,000 assist mark last Wednesday in a match against Illinois College. Boyer made quick work of reaching the milestone after joining the 1,000 assist club last season. She has 626 assists this season, averaging 7.45 per set. Boyer is a member of the Student Nursing Association and president of the MacMurray Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
The Panther volleyball team has notched a pair of consecutive conference wins, topping Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday and Eureka on Tuesday. Emily Tippettes led the Panthers with eight kills, hitting .571, in the team's win over Eureka with Mia Gill adding 13 digs. Principia is now 12-12 overall this season and are 9-7 in SLIAC action. They close out their regular season with matches against MacMurray and Greenville.

The Spalding women's soccer team secured a spot in the 2015 SLIAC Tournament for the first time in program history. They are currently 6-1-1 in conference play and will face Westminster on Saturday in their regular season finale. The Golden Eagles have won two consecutive games and five of their last six.
Webster's Filip Delija was named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week this week after burying five goals in three games. Delija tallied the only Gorlok goal in his team's contest against Spalding. He followed with his first collegiate hat trick in a win over Iowa Wesleyan and followed with another goal against Finlandia. Delija now has seven goals this season, all coming within his last five games.
The Westminster women's soccer team continues to chase the top spot in the SLIAC standings. The Blue Jays are 6-1 in SLIAC play and conclude their regular season with games at home against Greenville and Spalding. The Blue Jays have won two straight and are battling for a spot into the playoffs, holding a two game edge over the nearest school.
