What a Treat! Spalding Men Take Back-to-Back Cross Country Titles (October 31, 2015)

NFCA Announces All-Academic Honors (November 2, 2015)

AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn volleyball team wrapped up the 2015 season this week and finished the season with five wins under first-year head coach Jordan Barton. The Beavers' had a pair of freshmen led the way. Emily Schroeder (211) and Alanni Young (205) each topped the 200 kill plateau this year. The Beavers featured just one senior in their regular rotation and gained plenty of experience on the court this year.

Eureka's Brady Thomas and James Bowen finished among the SLIAC leaders in a couple of offensive categories this year. Thomas, a sophomore, led the conference in goals with 15 and finished second in total points with 32. Bowen, a freshman, finished fifth in the league with 10 goals and fifth in total points with 24. The Red Devils duo accounted for 76-percent of their teams goals this season.

It was a memorable night for the Fontbonne volleyball team on Tuesday. Not only did the team celebrate Senior Night but the Griffins notched their 11th conference win of the season and in doing so captured a spot in the 2015 SLIAC Volleyball Tournament. The Griffins will be making their 14th trip to the postseason and their first since 2009.

The Greenville volleyball team secured their sixth consecutive SLIAC regular season title with a win over Principia on Tuesday. The Panthers have now won at least a share of the SLIAC regular season title for a league record six straight years, becoming the first program in the conference to accomplish that feat. Greenville is currently 22-7 overall and finished 17-1 in the SLIAC. They will be the #1 seed and host the Volleyball Tournament this weekend.

The Iowa Wesleyan University softball team was honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for their success in the classroom. The Tigers received to the 2014-15 Division III All-Academic Team award, holding a 3.507 team cumulative grade-point average. In addition Andrea Bury, Haleigh Cowan, Samantha McIllwain, Caitlin O'Neill, Skyler Rodgers, Samantha Shepard, Kassie Vazquez, and Alli Willis were named to NFCA Scholar Athletes.

The MacMurray men's soccer team captured their first win of the 2015 season last week in a 2-0 victory over Eureka. The Highlanders took an early lead on a Miles Money goal just 11-minutes into the action. Peter Norton added an insurance goal late in the second-half. Tyler Marfo recorded the shutout win in net, making nine saves.

The Principia cross country teams had impressive runs at the SLIAC Championship last weekend, with numerous runners setting personal bests. Kyla Pelletier and Shontee Pant placed 13th and 14th in the women's race, earning Second Team All-Conference honors. On the men's side Shane Witters-Hicks finished second overall with a personal best time of 25:26 while Zach Matthiesen grabbed third overall.

Spalding University swept the SLIAC Cross Country Championships with the men's team winning their second consecutive title and the women capturing their first ever title. The men's team had three runners finish in the top six with Brandon Price winning the individual title. The women's team edged out the field in the closest race in conference history. Kayla Payne paced the Golden Eagles with a third place overall finish.

Webster junior runner Valerie Martin etched her name in the record books when she won the 2015 Women's Cross Country Championship, becoming the first Gorlok to do so since 1993. Martin blew past the field of runners, finishing the 6K course in a time of 23:06; 16-seconds faster than the closest runner.

The Westminster men's soccer team will host the SLIAC Tournament this week after going 9-0 in SLIAC play during the regular season. The Blue Jays are 15-2 overall and scored a league high 75 goals while allowing just 10 goals. The Blue Jays have won two straight SLIAC Tournaments and are looking to become the first program in SLIAC history to win three straight.
