SLIAC Players of the Week - March 6

This week's SLIAC Players of the Week include Monica Behrle, of Webster University; Abby Burroughs, of Webster University; Jimi Keating, of Spalding University; Erin Smith, of Eureka College; and Blake Strebler, of Westminster College.

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS HITTER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 6
BLAKE STREBLER, WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

Blake Strebler, a junior for Westminster College, is the SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week after being a part of the Blue Jays' offensive explosion in a double header sweep of Robert Morris-Springfield. Strebler reached base in every plate appearance on the day, going 5-for-5 at the plate while also drawing a walk. In game he was 3-for-3 with four runs scored, a home run, and two runs batted in. In game two he picked up two more hits, both home runs, while driving in five. On the day he finished with seven runs scored, three home runs, and seven runs batted in.

JIMI KEATING, SPALDING UNIVERSITY

Jimi Keating, a pitcher for Spalding University, is this week's SLIAC/Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week. Keating notched his third win of the season in a 2-1 victory over Anderson. Keating went 8 2/3 of scoreless innings before giving way and allowing a late run. Keating allowed just four hits in the game while striking out seven.

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 6
ABBY BURROUGHS, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

This week's SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week is Abby Burroughs from Webster University. Burroughs, a freshman, made an immediate impact for the Gorloks at the plate; hitting .519 with two home runs and 13 runs batted in while helping Webster start the year with eight straight wins. Burroughs reached base in all eight games including notching hits in six of them. She had four multi-hit games on the week including a 4-for-5 game against Rhodes in which she added three runs scored with one home run and four RBI. Burroughs added a second four RBI game when she powered the Gorloks to a win over Robert Morris-Springfield. On the week she finished with an .852 slugging percentage and 12 runs scored while going 14-of-27 at the plate.

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 6
ERIN SMITH, EUREKA COLLEGE

Erin Smith, from Eureka College, is the SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for March 6. Smith, a freshman from Dunlap, Ill., had a memorable collegiate debut for the Red Devils last week in a 13-0 win over Lehman. Smith recorded a perfect game in the five inning win. She allowed no base runners while striking out six over the five innings and helping the Red Devils to their first win of the 2017 season.

 

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 6
MONICA BEHRLE, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Monica Behrle is the SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the first week of the award this spring. Behrle picked up two combined wins on the week, winning at #1 singles and at #2 doubles. She defeated her singles opponent from Division II foe McKendree University by the score of 6-3, 6-2. Teaming with Jesse Steffens-Willis she added an 8-6 win in doubles over Cornell College.

  • Matt Goro, Webster University (Baseball) Goro notched a complete game shutout over North Park, striking out four.
  • Allyson Hahn, Westminster College (Softball) Hahn threw 4 2/3 innings of scoreless innings in relief in picking up a win over Wisconsin-Platteville.
  • Lexi Litwiller, Eureka College (Softball) Litwiller picked up four hits and four runs batted in during a double header on the opening day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.
  • Grant Mullin, Eureka College (Baseball) Mullin tied a NCAA Division III record last week when he had three hits in the same inning during Eureka's 27-1 win over Rust; finishing 4-for-5 with four runs batted in on the day.
  • Mackenzie Myers, Westminster College (Softball) Myers had a three game stretch last week in which she totaled seven hits and seven runs batted in.
  • Ryan Schocker, Fontbonne University (Baseball) Schocker hit .533 last week, including three hits in a come from behind win over Millikin to help the Griffins to their first win of the year.
  • Chelsea Thornley, Webster University (Softball) Thornley recorded four wins in the circle for the Gorloks last week.
