SLIAC Players of the Week - September 12

This week's SLIAC Players of the Week include Edgar Bueno, from Greenville College; Brooke Goodyear, from Greenville College; Cierra Howard, from Iowa Wesleyan University; Hannah Marshall, from Westminster College; Dani Pearce, from Greenville College; Michael Powell, from Principia College; and Demi West, from Spalding University.

	SLIAC MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK MICHAEL POWELL - PRINCIPIA COLLEGE Michael Powell from Principia College is the SLIAC Men's Cross Country Player of the Week. The freshman, from Westlake Village, Calif., picked up a top ten finish in a packed field at the Les Duke Invite hosted by Grinnell College. Powell finished 10th out of 234 runners in the field, helping the Panthers to a 9th place team finish. Powell completed the rain soaked 8K course in a time of 28:16, just over one minute off the winning time.
	SLIAC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK *BROOKE GOODYEAR* - GREENVILLE COLLEGE Brooke Goodyear, a junior from Greenville College, is the SLIAC Player of the Week this week after helping the Panthers to a second place team finish at the Olivet Nazarene Midwest Classic. Goodyear finished the 5K course with a time of 20:36, averaging a 6:38 mile pace. Goodyear battled through a wet course in a race that featured just two runners breaking the 20 minute barrier.
	SLIAC MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK (OFFENSIVE) *EDGAR BUENO* - GREENVILLE COLLEGE Greenville College's Edgar Bueno, a sophomore midfielder, is the SLIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Bueno, from Bellflower, Calif., overcame an injury early in the week to notch a goal in each of his games played on the week. In his first game back from an injury he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Robert Morris-Springfield, netting the goal at the 18 minute mark, despite limited playing time. Bueno was again the lone goal scorer for the Panthers in their 1-1 tie against Ozarks (Ark.), scoring the game tying goal at the 67-minute mark of the contest.
	SLIAC WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK (OFFENSIVE) *DANI PEARCE* - GREENVILLE COLLEGE Dani Pearce, a sophomore from Greenville College, picks up SLIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors this week after helping the Panthers to a pair of wins. Pearce had a role in all three of her team's goals in their 3-0 win over Ozarks (Ark.). Pearce set up the game's first goal and then extended the lead with two goals in a five minute span. Against Rockford, Pearce again got the scoring started by setting up teammate Whitney Warner for the first goal of the game. On the week Pearce netted three goals and three assists in three games played.
	SLIAC WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK (DEFENSIVE) *DEMI WEST* - SPALDING UNIVERSITY Demi West picks up SLIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week. West, a senior from Sheffield, England, helped the Golden Eagles blank their only opponent last week, Berea. In that game West also added a goal and an assist while anchoring a defense that limited Berea to just four shots.
	SLIAC VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK (OFFENSIVE) HANNAH MARSHALL - WESTMINSTER COLLEGE Hannah Marshall, a junior from Westminster College, grabs SLIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Weeks this week after leading the Blue Jays to an undefeated week. Marshall, an outside hitter from Wildwood, Mo., averaged 4.0 kills per set through three matches last week. Twice she recorded double digit kills while hitting .348 on the week and averaging 4.8 points per set. Marshall had a high of 19 kills in her team's 3-2 win over Fontbonne. She made the most of short work in her match against Harris-Stowe, finishing with nine kills and a .818 hitting percentage in just two sets.
	SLIAC VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK (DEFENSIVE) *CIERRA HOWARD* - IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY Cierra Howard, a senior from Bellevue, Neb., is the SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. The Iowa Wesleyan University libero put up back to back 30 dig performances last week in helping her team to two wins including their first conference win of the year. Howard totaled 31 digs in a 3-1 over Knox and followed with 38 digs in a 3-2 win against Fontbonne. On the week Howard averaged 6.42 digs per set, and she currently leads the conference in digs per set.

Other Notables:

Jessica Diehl, Spalding University (Volleyball) Diehl recorded 17 kills, while hitting .615, in a 3-1 win over Otterbein.
Briggs Hurley, Principia College (Men's Soccer) Hurley tallied two goals in two games last week, adding a game winning assist in his team's 3-1 win over St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
Allyson Mitchell, Greenville College (Volleyball) Mitchell pounded out 24 kills in her team's 3-1 win over St. Mary of the Woods.
Katie O'Toole, Webster University (Volleyball) O'Toole racked up 85 digs in four matches last week, averaging 6.07 digs per set.
Rachel Perea, Principia College (Women's Soccer) Perea netted three goals in the final 14-minutes of regulation against Ozarks (Ark.), forcing the game into overtime before her team fell 5-4.
Dee Dee Sliter, Spalding University (Women's Soccer) Sliter continued her hot start to the season, recording two goals and one assists in a 7-0 win against Berea.
Drake Trease, Westminster College (Men's Soccer) Trease notched a goal in each of his team's two games last week, including the game winner against Hendrix.
