SLIAC Players of the Week - October 17

This week's SLIAC Players of the Week include Alyssa Cosgrove, from Spalding University; Amy Greene, from Westminster College; Holly Goergen, from Webster University; Kyle Hertel, from Webster University; Kornell Hilliard, from Spalding University; Nate Richards, from Principia College; Savannah Sells, from Greenville College; and Dee Dee Sliter, from Spalding University.


SLIAC MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
NATE RICHARDS - PRINCIPIA COLLEGE

Nate Richards claims his second SLIAC Player of the Week award after a strong showing at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Kollege Towne Sports Invite. Richards finished 29th in a field of 551 runners, competing in one of the region's top races. He finished the 8K course in a time of 25:43, averaging a 5:12 mile pace. Richards, a junior from Princeton, Mass., also took home the weekly honor back on September 26 of this fall.

 


SLIAC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
HOLLY GOERGEN - WEBSTER UNIVESITY

Holly Goergen, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz., is this week's SLIAC Women's Cross Country Player of the Week. Goergen finished in 12th place at the University of Evansville Invite. She completed the course in a time of 19:50, setting a new personal best time by 38-seconds while also setting a new program record on the 5K course. Goergen averaged a 6:23 mile pace during the race and finished just 1:27 behind the race winner.


SLIAC MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK (OFFENSIVE)
KORNELL HILLIARD - SPALDING UNIVERSITY

Kornell Hilliard from Spalding University is this week's SLIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Hilliard, a freshman from Louisville, Ky., recorded four total points in his team's 6-0 win over Eureka on Saturday, helping Spalding win their sixth consecutive game and remain undefeated in conference play. Hilliard set up the game's first goal just 11-minutes into the action. He followed with a goal of his own just two minutes later and tacked on another assist in the second-half. On the year Hilliard has five goals and three assists for 13 total points.


SLIAC MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK (DEFENSIVE)
KYLE HERTEL - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Kyle Hertel, a freshman from Sandpoint, Idaho, is the SLIAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Hertel recorded a shutout win over Principia, stopping all six shots he faced in net. This marks the second time this season Hertel has won the weekly award, also winning on Sept. 26. Hertel is now 3-3 on the season and holds a 1.45 goals against average.


SLIAC WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK (OFFENSIVE)
DEE DEE SLITER - SPALDING UNIVERSITY

For the second time this season Dee Dee Sliter takes home the SLIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award. Sliter, a senior from Louisville, Ky., set the tone in her team's win over Eureka last Saturday. She scored a natural hat trick, netting the game's first three goals in just a 15-minute span. Sliter tallied her three goals on just five shots and now has 14 goals and 32 total points this season. Sliter also won the award back in the opening week of the season on Sept. 5.

 


SLIAC WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK (DEFENSIVE)
AMY GREENE - WESTMINSTER COLLEGE 

Amy Greene is this week's SLIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Greene, a senior defender, guided a Blue Jay defense that recorded back to back shutout wins on the week; extending the team winning streak to three games. Greene and the Blue Jays limited Greenville to just four shots, including none on goal, in a 1-0 win. They were even more dominant in a win over Iowa Wesleyan, allowing no shots for the entire game. The Blue Jay defense has now recorded three consecutive shutouts.

SLIAC VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK (OFFENSIVE)
ALYSSA COSGROVE - SPALDING UNIVERSITY

Alyssa Cosgrove, a freshman from Spalding University, is the SLIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week. Cosgrove, an outside hitter from Louisville, Ky., had a career week with 39 kills in two wins. Cosgrove had a career high 20 kills in her team's win over Fontbonne and followed with 19 kills in a sweep of Eureka. She averaged 5.57 kills per set in the two matches while hitting .414 overall and totaling 41.5 points. She also added two service aces and an assist as Spalding has now won five of their last six matches.

SLIAC VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK (DEFENSIVE)
SAVANNAH SELLS - GREENVILLE COLLEGE

Savannah Sells, a senior from Greenville College, is the SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. Sells, from Highland, Ill., was a wall at the net for the Panthers this week; helping them record a pair of wins. Sells totaled 13 blocks in her two matches, averaging 1.86 blocks per set. She had a high of seven blocks in a win over Iowa Wesleyan including three solo stuffs. Sells also added 19 kills in the two matches, finishing with 27 total points. She is currently first in the SLIAC in total blocks with 99 and blocks per set.

Other Notables:

  • Ali Bumblis, Spalding University (Women's Soccer) Bumblis netted her first goal of the year in her team's win over Eureka while also holding her opponent to just one shot during the shutout win.
  • Jacob Burrell, Greenville College (Men's Cross Country) Burrell had a top ten finish at the Bradley Classic, completing the course with a time of 26:39.
  • Allegra Collette, Iowa Wesleyan University (Volleyball) Collette finished with 11 kills while hitting .476 in her match against Principia.
  • Savannah Davis, Fontbonne University (Women's Soccer) Davis helped her team to a pair of conference wins last week including a seven point outburst in her team's win over Eureka with two goals and three assists.
  • Katie Gosser, Fontbonne University (Women's Cross Country) Gosser shattered her previous personal best time this weekend, finishing her race with a time of 25:52; nearly three minutes better than her previous time.
  • Jessie Kuykendall, Westminster College (Women's Cross Country) Kuykendall took second place at the Illinois College Invite with a time of 23:35.
  • Emily Lascody, MacMurray College (Volleyball) Lascody upped her numbers in each match as the week went on; closing out with 41 assists and seven aces in a win over Eureka.
  • Joey Lesher, Spalding University (Men's Soccer) Lesher netted a goal and helped anchor the Golden Eagle defense that picked up a shutout win over Eureka.
  • Allyson Mitchell, Greenville College (Volleyball) Mitchell recorded her 1,000th career kill during a win over Iowa Wesleyan and earlier in the week finished with 18 kills and 20 digs in a win over Rose-Hulman.
  • Brendan Shields, Webster University (Men's Soccer) Shields netted the game's only goal in the Gorloks 1-0 win over Principia.
  • Jory Siebenmorgen, Webster University (Volleyball) Siebenmorgen tallied 17 kills in her team's 3-1 win over Westminster.
  • Glenn Teubner, Westminster College (Men's Cross Country) Teubner placed second at the Illinois College Invite, finishing with a time of 27:58.
