Help Support Coaches vs. Cancer Week Across The SLIAC

For the second consecutive year the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) is proud to help support the nationally recognized Coaches vs. Cancer week. Last season the SLIAC became the first conference at any NCAA level to to participate conference wide raising awareness for the fight against cancer.

"It is great to see SLIAC institutions collaborate on a conference wide project like the Coaches vs. Cancer games," said SLIAC Commissioner Angie Morenz. "These are games you would typically see at each individual institution in a given year, this year this group has combined their energy to take a stand against cancer. It is exciting to work with the American Cancer Society to raise awareness and educate others about preventative measures."

All week long members across the SLIAC will join more than 4,000 basketball coaches from across the country in the fight against cancer. SLIAC schools will be holding various fundraising events all week long while hosting conference games. Among the events being held will be a three point challenge by Blackburn College, a wall pledge board at Iowa Wesleyan University, a 50/50 raffle, dance contest and more at Westminster College, and a Wall of Hope, t-shirts, and raffle by Fontbonne University.

The Westminster Coaches vs. Cancer events will take place on Wednesday, January 25th during a SLIAC doubleheader against Greenville College while Blackburn will hold a three point challenge, raising money for every three-pointer made on Saturday, January 28th. Fontbonne will hold their fundraising events during their February 1st games against Greenville College.

Last season the SLIAC raised over $3,800 conference wide for Coaches vs. Cancer. For more information and to join coaches and the SLIAC in the fight against cancer, visit coachesvscancer.org/suitsandsneakers

Coaches vs. Cancer, founded in 1993, is a nationwide collaborative between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The upcoming Coaches vs. Cancer - Suits and Sneakers campaign encourages coaches and their staff to wear sneakers with their suits during games to raise awareness of the fight against cancer and demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society and its mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. The initiative aims to increase cancer awareness, highlights the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing a person's cancer risk, and promotes the American Cancer Society's free programs and services available to those facing cancer. Since 1993, coaches have raised more than $100 million for the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer.
