Blackburn senior Jake Maestranzi claimed his second straight SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week award. Maestranzi, a guard, averaged 16.5 points and 5.5 assists per game while helping Blackburn go 1-1 over holiday break. He tallied 20 second-half points in a game against Elmhurst and followed with 13 points, eight assists, and four steals in a win over MacMurray. Blackburn currently sits atop the SLIAC standings with a 4-1 record.

Eureka College will honor Men's Basketball Head Coach Chip Wilde on Saturday, January 21st as this season marks his 10th year as head coach of the Red Devils. Coach Wilde will be honored prior to the tip of the men's game that day with a cash bar and snacks being provided in the Hall of Fame room. Coach Wilde recorded his 100th career coaching win last year and ranks 4th in all-time wins. For more information click HERE
The Fontbonne University softball team will hold a Valentine's Day clinic on February 12th. The clinic will run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. with lunch being held from 12-1 and is open to grades 1 through 9. The cost is $65 per player and includes a t-shirt. Drills will include infield and outfield drills, small ball drills for both offense and defense, hitting, and base running. For more information click HERE
Greenville College held their annual fall athletic team banquet last month, honoring student-athletes from their fall athletic programs (men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, and football which is not sponsored by the SLIAC). Accolades included Greenville's first football Division III All-American, a Conference Player of the Year, two Conference Coach of the Year awards, one Conference Team Sportsmanship award, two Conference Newcomer of the Year awards, 11 First Team All-Conference members, and 39 SLIAC All-Academic team members. The Iowa Wesleyan men's basketball team has won three straight games, the second longest active winning streak in the league. The Tigers are 7-4 overall and tied for second place in the SLIAC standings with a 3-1 record. After defeating Spalding the Tigers followed with non-conference wins against Knox and Cornell. Iowa Wesleyan puts their winning streak on the line when they host Webster and Greenville this week as they return to SLIAC play.

The MacMurray men's basketball team will look to turn a new page in the New Year. After dropping their first ten games of the season the Highlanders will start the New Year with a pair of home games this week. They will host Westminster on Wednesday night and Eureka on Saturday. In fact the Highlanders will play six of their eight games in the month of January at home.

Principia College has announced their 2016 Fall Semester Dean's List. There were a total of 15 student-athletes that made the list, maintaining a 4.0 grade-point average for the semester. Those student-athletes are: Clarice Bruch, Gabriella Burns, Laura Cluthe, Cha Cha Fisher, Christina Fredrikson, Emelie Fredrikson, Sean Hannan, Sophia Hathaway, Elsa Heath, Elliot Hummel, Nicole Matters, Marie Sherman, Emily Staunton, Tyler Wingert, and Nathan Wood.

The Spalding women's basketball team is hoping to have left their losing streak with their calendar from last year. After opening the season 6-1 the Golden Eagles lost their final three games of 2016. They will start 2017 on the road with games at Greenville (Thursday) and Webster (Saturday). Spalding is currently 1-2 in SLIAC play and 6-4 overall.

The Webster women's basketball team is looking to continue their momentum from the first-half of the season into the second-half. The Gorloks begin the year with a 9-2 overall record, having dropped just one game in each of the first two months. They have won two straight and will face Iowa Wesleyan in Iowa on Wednesday night before returning home on Saturday to face Spalding.
The Blue Jays men's basketball team worked their way to a 6-4 overall record during the first half of the season, including a 3-1 mark in the SLIAC. They sit in second place, tied with two other teams, and will begin the second-half of the season at MacMurray on Wednesday night. They will return home on Saturday to start a five game home stand that brings Blackburn, Iowa Wesleyan, Eureka, Kansas Christian, and Principia to town.
