Westminster Marks Change A Top SLIAC Softball Preseason Poll (January 25, 2017)
Westminster College was picked first in the 2017 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, marking the first time in eight years a team other than Fontbonne University is the favorites coming into the season.....MORE
Greenville and Webster Top SLIAC Baseball Preseason Poll (January 26, 2017)
Greenville College and Webster University have been chosen as the favorites in their respective divisions according to the 2017 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Coaches Preseason Poll. Greenville totaled 37 points in the poll, receiving five first-place votes and are the favorites in the East Division while Webster picked up 45 points, including nine first-place votes, and are the favorites in the West Division.....MORE

SLIAC Game of the Week: Blackburn at MacMurray (January 31, 2017)
This week's SLIAC Game of the Week is between Blackburn College and MacMurray College, one of the longest running series in the SLIAC. The two teams have played a total of 56 games since joining the SLIAC with Blackburn snapping a 14 game MacMurray winning streak earlier this season.....MORE

AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn men's basketball team is in a battle for a spot in the SLIAC Tournament. The Beavers are facing MacMurray in the SLIAC Game of the Week this week, on Wednesday night. The Beavers defeated MacMurray earlier this season, ending a 14 game losing streak in the series, and is looking to sweep the regular season series against MacMurray for the first time since the 2005 season, the same year in which they last made the tournament. |

The Red Devil women's basketball team ran through the month of January undefeated, going 7-0 and improving to 13-5 overall and 9-0 in the SLIAC. They are in first-place in the SLIAC standings by three games and carry their seven game winning streak into Wednesday's game against Webster. The Red Devils will close out their week on Saturday at Fontbonne. |

The Fontbonne women's basketball team picked up a 79-39 win over Blackburn last week. In the win, senior Emmie Haring broke her own single season assist record. She tallied 10 assists to give her 159 assists this year. The NCAA Division III leader in total assists now owns the top three single season assist records for Fontbonne's program and averages 8.0 assists per game. She recorded 149 assists her sophomore season and 145 assists last year. |

The Greenville women's basketball team sits in second place in the conference standings with an 8-3 record. The Panthers had their four game winning streak stopped in a non-conference loss to Williams Baptist on Monday night. The Panthers return to conference action this week with a pair of road games at Fontbonne and Spalding. |

Iowa Wesleyan men's basketball senior Steven Soukup has heated up in the month of January. Soukup is averaging 29.8 points per game during his seven games this month, shooting 66-percent from the field. Soukup also picked up three of the four SLIAC Player of the Week awards this month. On the season he is averaging 26.5 points per game while shooting 61-percent from the field. |

MacMurray College men's basketball junior forward became the latest Highlander to reach a career milestone, recording his 1,000th career point in Saturday's game against Greenville College. Long netted 36 points on Saturday, going 13-of-17 from the field while also grabbing 10 rebounds. For his career Long now has exactly 1,000 career points. He is averaging 19.7 points per game this season, ranking him fifth in the conference. |

On a night filled with star performances senior Justin Ball stole the show early recording his 1,000th career point in a 102-98 Principia victory over Iowa Wesleyan. Ball is the first Panther player to reach the exclusive club since Kenny Sydness did it three years ago. Ball is averaging 8.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season while Principia is 7-10 overall and 6-6 in the SLIAC. |

Despite their slow start to conference play, when they dropped four of their first six games, the Golden Eagles remain in the hunt for a spot into the SLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament. Spalding is 5-5 in the SLIAC now and will host three straight conference opponents including Westminster and Greenville this week. Spalding is currently just a half game back for the final spot into the tournament. |

After suffering their first back to back losses two weeks ago the Gorloks women's basketball team responded with two straight wins last week, defeating Morthland and Westminster to improve to 14-5 overall. This week is a big one for the Gorloks in their chase for the tournament. They are currently 6-4 in SLIAC play, in fourth place in the standings, with this week's opponents being first place Eureka and third place Iowa Wesleyan. |

Former Westminster baseball stand out Deion Hughes was honored by the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame this week at their Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony. Hughes received the Achievement Award, honoring individuals across the state that have received national recognition. Last spring Hughes earned Conference and Region Player of the Year awards among other recognitions. For the full story.....MORE |
