AROUND THE SLIAC

Blackburn College is joining in the celebration of the nation-wide NCAA Division III Week. You can view a video of Blackburn student-athletes talking about their D3 experience HERE
The Eureka baseball team had a thrilling 6-5 extra inning win over Fontbonne on Sunday, to wrap up their three game series against the Griffins. Eureka will look to carry that momentum into this weekend's action as they host Principia and Spalding in a pair of conference doubleheaders.
Former Fontbonne University pitcher Vinny Santarsiero was promoted to the Single A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization earlier this week. Santarsiero, who pitched for the Griffins before signing a deal to play professional baseball, was placed on the Great Lakes Loons roster. For the full story click HERE
The Greenville baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of Fontbonne on Tuesday, winning game one 3-2 and game two 7-5. The Panthers needed two runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the game one win and held off a late push by the Griffins, who plated four runs in the final two innings, in game two for their third conference win of the year. Greenville will face Blackburn in a three-game series this weekend.

Steve Williamson, Athletic Director and Head Women's Basketball Coach at Iowa Wesleyan, has announced he will be stepping down from both positions and taking the head coaching position at William Penn University. Williamson, a 2000 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan, has led the women's program for the last 13 seasons and served as athletic director for the last three years. For the full story click HERE

MacMurray was able to salvage one game of their scheduled three-game series against Blackburn last week, with Wednesday's doubleheader being postponed. The Highlanders won the only game 7-5, tallying a run in each of the final three innings to secure the win. MacMurray is 12-10 on the season and faces Fontbonne in a conference doubleheader on Saturday and Knox in a non-conference game on Sunday.

The Panthers women's tennis team defeated Westminster 6-3 to move to 2-0 in conference action this spring. Principia took two of three doubles matches on the day. Paige Cooley, Caitlin Carney, Nathalie DeLoach, and Anh Vu all picked up wins in singles action. The Panthers will have three matches next week includin a show down against Webster on Thursday.

After winning four straight games, all conference contests, the Spalding baseball team has improved to 6-1 in SLIAC action and are in first-place in their division. Spalding puts their streak on the line with a pair of road doubleheaders this weekend as they face Eureka on Saturday and Fontbonne on Sunday.

The Gorlok softball team has won three straight games including a sweep of Principia earlier this week. The Gorloks won 9-0 and 12-1 to move to 3-1 in conference play this season. Morgan Mansur picked up the shutout in game one while Alexis Spriggs recorded the win in game two. Webster finished with 25 combined hits in the two games. The Gorloks will start an eight game home stand on Saturday against Iowa Wesleyan.
The Westminster softball team won all four conference games last week, sweeping MacMurray and Spalding, to move atop the SLIAC standings. The Blue Jays also swept the SLIAC weekly softball awards with Aubrie Vaughn being named Hitter of the Week and Alyson Hahn winning Pitcher of the Week. Westminster is set to face Eureka in a doubleheader on Saturday.
