Feature Friday with Dwain Barker (September 9, 2016)
In this week's SLIAC Feature Friday we sat down with Eureka College men's and women's soccer head coach Dwain Barker. Coach Barker is in his third season as head coach of the Red Devils programs and guided the men's team to a program record eight wins last season. Blackburn Tops Pair of SLIAC Schools In Greenville's First Meet (September 13, 2016)
The Blackburn College golf squad topped a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference members over the weekend in the first ever meet hosted by first-year program Greenville College. AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn women's soccer team notched their first win of the 2016 season last weekend with a 5-2 win over Lakeland as part of the Alverno College Inferno Cup. The Beavers scored four unanswered second-half goals to come back from a 2-1 deficit for the win. Christin Miller led the attack with two goals while Makayla Ewing and Maya March each added one. The Beavers also benefited from an own goal. Ashley Hoban stopped all three shots she faced in net for the Beavers to pick up the win. |

The Eureka men's soccer team remain undefeated in 2016 after edging out Rockford 1-0 on Tuesday to move to 2-0-1 on the year. The only goal of the game came off the foot of James Bowen in the 31-minute mark. Bowen was set up by Michael Hernandez for his fifth goal of the season, tied for tops in the SLIAC. Daniel Johnson picked up the shutout by stopping all six shots on goal. |

The Fontbonne volleyball squad picked up their first conference win of the year on Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep of MacMurray; with Fontbonne winning 25-20, 25-16, 25-11. The Griffins were sparked by Lynsey Wehrenberg's five service aces in the match. The senior setter also added 13 assists in the match. The Griffins finished with a .221 hitting percentage and were led by Kersten McDonough's 12 kills. |

Dani Pearce was named SLIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Panthers pick up their first two wins of the week last week. Pearce totaled three goals and three assists in three games. She started with two goals and an assist in a 3-0 win over Ozarks. Pearce added another goal and two assists in a 6-0 win over Rockford. |

Iowa Wesleyan senior libero Cierra Howard captured SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors this week. Howard, from Bellevue, Neb., averaged 6.42 digs per set including back to back 30 dig matches. She recorded 31 digs in a 3-1 win over Knox and followed with 38 digs in a win over Fontbonne. The Tigers are now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the SLIAC. |

MacMurray College will host a volleyball quad this Saturday with Greenville, Iowa Wesleyan, and Webster coming to kick off a day of conference matches. There will be two matches at 11 a.m. and two at 1 p.m. MacMurray will also be holding a fund raiser during the matches, raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Principia women's soccer team rolled to their first win of the season on Tuesday with a 3-0 win over St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The Panthers got on the board when Emelie Fredrikson netted her first of the year on a pass from Tanya Marquardt. Just eight minutes later Brittany Ouellette buried a shot off a pass from Sarai Marcano. The final goal of the game came in the 79th minute when Fredrikson scored her second of the game. Libby Lewis stopped the only shot she faced for the shutout win. |

Spalding's Demi West picked up her second consecutive SLIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award after helping the Golden Eagles notch their third consecutive shutout last week. West, a senior from Sheffield, England, led a defense that allowed just four shots on goal in a 7-0 win over Berea, all while adding a goal and an assist in the win. |

The Gorloks women's soccer team were greeted by the comforts of home and won the home opener of the 2016 season 2-0 over North Central; the win also marked the Gorloks first of the season. Webster got off 19 shots in the game and scored two first-half goals to take control. Nicole Basio got the scoring started at the 28-minute mark and Brianna Pagan added a goal less than two minutes later. It was a split shutout in net for the Gorloks as Aly Miller made two stops and Abbey Mercer made four saves. |

Westminster's Hannah Marshall, the reigning SLIAC Volleyball Player of the Year, picked up SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors last week after helping her team go 3-0 in competition. Marshall piled up 47.5 points in the three matches highlighted by a 19 kill performance against Fontbonne. She made the most of her time against Harris-Stowe, putting down nine kills in just two sets while hitting .818 in the match. On the year Marshall is averaging 3.72 kills per set. |
