SLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament Preview (November 1, 2016)
The 2016 SLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament field includes Fontbonne University, Spalding University, Webster University, and Westminster College. Semifinal games will be held Thursday with the championship game being played on Saturday.....MORE

SLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament Preview (November 1, 2016)
The 2016 SLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament field is set and will include Fontbonne University, Spalding University, Webster University, and Westminster College. Three of the four programs have previously won a tournament championship while Spalding is making their second consecutive trip to the tournament in program history.....MORE

AROUND THE SLIAC

	The Blackburn soccer programs recently donated $650 to Cookies for Kid's Cancer. Cookies for Kid's Cancer is committed to raising funds for research to develop new, improved treatments for pediatric cancer. Money was raised through a raffle, t-shirt sales, and hosting a youth soccer clinic. Approximately 50 children attended each of the clinics, held in September, which were instructed by Blackburn student-athletes.
	The Eureka volleyball team continued their resurgence in 2016, by winning their 12th overall game and 7th conference game this season when they defeated Fontbonne 3-1 last week. The 12 wins are more than their last three years combined and mark the most in a season since 2009. Their seven conference wins this year are the second most in a season in program history, trailing only the 2007 season when they registered eight wins.
	Fontbonne volleyball seniors Kersten McDonough and Alli Brown will close out their careers on a high note, being named the SLIAC Players of the Week. McDonough was named Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 4.25 kills per set over four matches last week, including a season high 27 kills in a win over Webster. Brown picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors after a strong defensive week at the net, recording 23 blocks in four matches and setting a program record for block assists in a season.
	The Greenville College cross country programs swept the team titles at this year's SLIAC Cross Country Championship. The men's team did so thanks to a string of consecutive finishers. The Panthers did not have a runner in the top five but took spots 6-11 to secure the title. The women's team meanwhile had two of the top three finishers (Brooke Goodyear and Lia Kruse) to help extend their conference record to 16 titles.
	The Iowa Wesleyan men's soccer team wrapped up their 2016 season on Saturday, suffering a 5-2 loss to Spalding. The Tigers were able to find the back of the net twice against SLIAC's only undefeated team, Spalding, with Juan Carlos Franco burying both goals. Franco finishes the season as the leading scorer for the Tigers with 12 points. Iowa Wesleyan closes out the season with a 5-14-1 record, their most wins in the last three years.
	MacMurray College teamed with Illinois College for their "Set, Serve, and Rally For a Cure" match last week, raising money for research and treatment of breast cancer. Since starting the annual event the two schools have raised over $10,000 for the foundation. Numerous activities were held that included various gift baskets for auction, t-shirts, and raffle drawings.
	The Principia men's cross country had an impressive showing at the 2016 SLIAC Cross Country Championship by taking the top three spots. Zach Matthiesen became the seventh different Panther to win the SLIAC individual title, finishing in a time of 25:34. Nate Richards, the 2014 SLIAC Runner of the Year, finished second, just four seconds behind Matthiesen. The Panthers made it 1,2,3 when freshman Michael Powell raced in for third place in a time of 26:09.
	Spalding University's Alyssa Logan was named 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District. Logan, a senior from Carmel, Ind., is a natural science major with a focus in physical therapy and holds a 4.0 GPA. She is the first Spalding player to receive the honor and now moves on to the ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-American. You can read more about Alyssa and her honor HERE
	The Webster cross country team placed a total of five combined runners on the men's and women's cross country All-Conference teams. The women's team led the way with three runners taking home the honors. Valerie Martin placed 4th at the SLIAC meet while Meghan Illig finished 5th and Holly Goergen took 7th. On the men's side Riley Flynn finished 12th and Gryphon Ketterling was 13th as both were named Second Team All-Conference.
	Abby Rockers, a junior women's soccer player at Westminster College, has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. Rockers, from Jefferson City, Mo., is a Physical Education and Health and Wellness major and holds a 3.95 grade-point average. Rockers is also the two-time defending SLIAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
