AROUND THE SLIAC

Blackburn recently held their annual "Meet the Beavers" night for the men's and women's basketball teams. The event included a hot spot shooting contest, a three-point contest, a relay race, and a dunk contest. Members of the basketball teams also included students from the crowd, teaming with them in a player-student competition. The Beavers women's team tips off the 2016-17 basketball season at home on November 15th while the men start at home November 30th.

Eureka men's soccer player James Bowen finished second in the SLIAC in scoring this year with 32 total points. It marked his second straight season finishing in the top five in the conference in scoring, after finishing fifth last year. He is the first Red Devil player to finish in the top five in scoring in the conference in back to back seasons since Brian O'Malley did so in 2008 and 2009.
The Fontbonne women's soccer team had their season come to a close in the SLIAC Tournament Championship game. It marked the first time since 1996 the Griffins had advanced to the championship game, and they close out the season with a 12-7-2 overall record. Several players were honored as All-Conference performers including Natalie Sipole, Anna Whitaker, Tayler Pulvirenti, Meredith Wendt, Leann Smith, and Heather Wiegmann.
