The top two teams in the SLIAC women's basketball standings will meet in this week's SLIAC Game of the Week as Eureka College visits Greenville University. Greenville is the lone remaining undefeated team in conference play this year and already defeated defending SLIAC Tournament Champion Eureka earlier this season. This week's game will be played on Saturday, January 20th in Greenville, Illinois at 1 p.m.

Eureka College 'RED DEVILS'

Eureka carries a three-game winning streak into the start of this week. The Red Devils are 10-5 overall and 6-1 in conference action. They will be on the road against Fontbonne on Wednesday night before traveling to Greenville on Saturday.

The Red Devils are leading the conference at 80.5 points per game and knock down 8.2 three's per game. Senior guard Hayley Reneau is not only dangerous on offense (23.6 ppg) but also leads the league with 68 steals. Kennedy Dura (12.5 ppg) and Kerrigan Dura (7.1 ppg) help to run one of the most efficient offenses with both players recording over 90 assists this year. Ashley Harfst adds to the team's options, averaging 12.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

        

Greenville University 'PANTHERS'

Greenville is coming off a loss to William Woods last week and will be at Webster on Wednesday to wrap up their three-game road trip before coming home on Saturday. The Panthers are 11-3 overall and 6-0 in the SLIAC. 

Greenville is averaging 79.7 points per game this season while shooting a conference-best 47-percent from the field and 42-percent from three-point range. They also commit the fewest turnovers in the league and rank second in rebounding margin. Wesley Woodard (11.8 ppg) and Maria Reinhard (11.5 ppg) have led the scoring attack in the absence of Laura Goodnight (12.5 ppg). Morgan St. James is an athletic player that is averaging 8.1 points and a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game. 

 

Last Time They Met
Greenville rallied after being down 25-16 after the first quarter to win 85-50 in Eureka, Illinois back on November 29 of this season. The Panthers held Eureka to just 14 points in the fourth quarter. Greenville was led by Meredith Crosier with 20 points while Maria Reinhard finished with 18 points, five assists, and five steals. Eureka was led by Hayley Reneau's 19 points and eight steals.

Game Notes

  • The Eureka and Greenville series is tied at 12-12 with the Panthers evening up the series with an 85-80 earlier this season.
  • Laura Goodnight, the Panthers' All-Conference forward, is back after missing 10 games earlier this season. Goodnight has played all three games since the start of the new year and is averaging 12.5 points per game while shooting 51-percent from the field.
  •  Eureka's Hayley Reneau is currently averaging 23.6 points per game this season. If she holds that mark it would be the second most ever by a player in SLIAC history, trailing only Laura Williams (Principia) 27.0 points per game in 1993-94.
  • Eureka and Greenville are among the nation's top scoring teams. Eureka ranks 9th in NCAA Division III while Greenville is ranked 11th.
