At a Glance

As we enter the final month of the regular season fans and teams are starting to look at the standings. And this week's SLIAC Game of the Week is one of importance for women's basketball as Westminster College visits Fontbonne University. Westminster is currently in the fourth and final spot for the tournament, however, Fontbonne is just one game behind. The two teams will meet on Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo.

Fontbonne University 'GRIFFINS'

Fontbonne begins the week with a 9-11 overall record and a 5-6 mark in conference play. They will face Greenville on Wednesday night before hosting Westminster on Saturday.

The Griffins are averaging 64.2 points per game, right in the middle of conference teams, while allowing 64.0 points per game, the third fewest. Paige Black is the team's leading scorer at 12.1 points per game while Raven Venegas is averaging 9.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Freshman Riley Guffey is averaging 6.5 points and a team-high 3.0 assists per game.

        

Westminster College 'BLUE JAYS'

Westminster will have a week off before returning to the court on Saturday against Fontbonne. The Blue Jays will bring an 11-9 overall and 6-5 SLIAC record into the game, having won their previous game over Spalding.

Westminster is averaging 72.4 points per game while allowing 66.6 points per game. The Blue Jays also rank 1st among conference teams in rebounding margin, at 15.3 per game. Kendahl Adams leads the team at 18.9 points per game and is also averaging 8.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Mirrakohl Johnson is second on the team with 11.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while freshman Grace Archambault is averaging 9.0 points and a team-high 9.4 rebounds per game.

 

Last Time They Met
Westminster won the first meeting of the season, 66-57 back on January 3 in Fulton, Mo. The Blue Jays used a big second period in which they outscored Fontbonne 22-8 to take control of the game. Kendahl Adams led the way with 17 points and 16 rebounds for Westminster while Fontbonne received 13 points off the bench from Kaitlynn Walker. 

Game Notes

  • Fontbonne leads the all-time series against Westminster 35-20 with the Blue Jays winning the last four games. 
  • Westminster has won five of their last seven games.
  • Fontbonne has one remaining home game this season after Saturday. They will host Iowa Wesleyan on February 10.
  • Westminster has broken the program record for points in a game twice already this season; first scoring 108 points against Barclay and three days later with 113 points against Kansas Christian.
  • Fontbonne's Paige Black is second in the conference with 53 three-point field goals.
