SLIAC Players of the Week - March 19

This week's SLIAC Players of the Week are Monica Behrle, Hannah Goett, Kyler Kent, Matt Mulhearn, Erin Smith, and Nate Wieland.

 

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 19

Kyler Kent, Webster University

Kent, a sophomore from Pottsboro, Texas, helped the Gorloks to three wins over ranked teams last week, leading their offensive attack with a .591 batting average. Kent recorded a hit in all five games on the week and finished with four multi-hit games. His best day was against #10 Southern Maine when he had a career-high four hits. Kent was 13-of-22 at the plate with four doubles and finished the week with six runs scored and three runs batted in. 

   

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 19

Matt Mulhearn, Webster University

Mulhearn, a sophomore from Chicago Heights, Ill., picked up his team-leading third win of the season by topping #11 St. Scholastica during the Gorloks spring break trip. Mulhearn worked 7 innings in the 6-3 win, allowing no runs and just two hits during his start. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and would finish the game with a career-high seven strikeouts. 

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 19

Hannah Goett, Blackburn College

Goett, a senior from Springfield, Ill., led the Beavers to a strong start on their trip to Florida hitting .500 over eight games. Goett, a catcher, tallied a hit in all eight games during the trip including four multi-hit games. She finished the week with five home runs and nine runs batted in; going 12-of-24 at the plate with 10 runs scored. Goett completed the week with a 1.208 slugging-percentage and drew three walks while striking out just three times. She also finished with a .900 fielding percentage and threw out two base stealers. 

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 19

Erin Smith, Eureka College

A sophomore from Dunlap, Illinois, Smith picked up a win in her only outing last week; a 5-0 game against Robert Morris-Springfield. Smith worked all seven innings in the game, allowing no runs and just three hits while striking out five. She is currently 3-0 on the season with a 0.27 earned-run average.

 

SLIAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 19

Nate Wieland, Greenville University

Wieland, a senior from Mascoutah, Ill., led the Panthers last week with seven combined wins; moving to 15-3 on the season. Wieland, playing at #1 singles, recorded three victories. He topped Nazareth 6-2, 6-3 then defeated Messiah and Concordia by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores. Wieland teamed up with Justin Tilford to capture four more wins at #1 doubles including a blanking of Nazareth 8-0. 

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 19

Monica Behrle, Webster University

Behrle, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., rolled off a 7-1 combined record last week. As the team's top player she secured three wins in singles and four more in doubles with her partner Madison Watts. Behrle picked up a doubles win against Wooster and had two wins each against Marietta, Stockton, and Nazareth. She is now 10-3 in singles play this season and 8-3 in doubles. 

Other Notables: 

  • Zach Bliss, Webster University (Men's Tennis) Had a perfect week, going 3-0, including two singles wins and his first ever win in doubles. 
  • Mason Diederich, Eureka College (Baseball) Recorded a pair of saves for the Red Devils, working a total of 4 1/3 innings and allowing just one hit. 
  • Grant Mullin, Eureka College (Baseball) Mullin put together an impressive week at the plate for Eureka, driving in 13 runs and finishing with a 1.176 slugging percentage in five games. 
  • Lane Staples, Spalding University (Baseball) Entered the game out of the bullpen with bases loaded, striking out the final batter of the game and closing out Spalding's 11-9 win over #1 ranked Massachusetts-Boston. 
  • Taylor White, Webster University (Softball) Went 4-for-7 with three runs scored in a pair of games last week.
