SLIAC Players of the Week - April 2

This week's list of award winners includes Monica Behrle, Taylor Bent, Kerrigan Dura, Kali George, Meghan Illig, Jake Kearney, Ryan Meddows, Nathan Potts, Mason Stevens, and Brody Swan.

 

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 2

Jake Kearney, Principia College

Kearney, a senior from Boulder, Col., helped the Panthers offense carry the team to four conference victories last week. Kearney hit .421 on the week, driving in seven over five games. He tallied three multi-hit games and drove a run in during each of the Panthers wins on the week. Kearney's top performance was a 3-for-4 effort in game one of a doubleheader against Greenville in which he added three runs scored and one RBI. Kearney drove in two runs during each of the Panthers games in a doubleheader against Iowa Wesleyan and in the second game of the doubleheader against Greenville.

   

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 2

Ryan Meddows, MacMurray College

Ryan Meddows, a senior from Trenton, Ill., pitched the Highlanders to their first conference win this season. The right-hander threw a complete game against first-place Fontbonne, working nine innings and allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out seven. Meddows did not allow a hit until the 4th inning and the second hit did not come until the 9th frame. 

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 2

Kerrigan Dura, Eureka College

Dura picks up her second straight weekly award after going 4-for-5 in a doubleheader sweep of Principia in the Red Devils' only games last week. Dura, a shortstop, notched two hits in both games on the day. In game one she was 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored. In the nightcap, Dura went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. She also drew two walks on the day and finished with a .857 on-base percentage and a 1.200 slugging percentage for the week. 

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 2

Kali George, Eureka College

Kali George, a senior from East Peoria, Ill., recorded her conference-leading 5th win of the year in a 12-4 victory over Principia, the second game of a doubleheader. George threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run on three hits. She struck out seven batters, her second-highest total this season, and walked just two. 

 

SLIAC MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 2

Mason Stevens, Webster University

Mason Stevens had a busy Saturday for the Gorloks competing in the John Creer Invitational. Stevens, a senior from Oakdale, Calif., competed in three events on the weekend and walked away with two top-three finishes. He took 3rd place in the javelin with a distance of 148'4", the second-best throw among SLIAC competitors this year. Stevens also teamed up for a 2nd place finish in the 4x400 meter relay and added a 6th place finish in the pole vault. 

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 2

Nathan Potts, Greenville University

Potts, a senior from St. Charles, Mo., ran his way to 1st finish in the 800-meter race at the WashU Invite and added a 4th place finish in the 4x400 relay. Potts took first with a time of 1:53.98, the best time from the SLIAC this spring, and a career best. The Panthers time of 3:24.36 in the relay race was the team's best this year by four-seconds and the second-fastest time in the conference this season.

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 2

Meghan Illig, Webster University

Illig, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., had two top three placements at the John Cree Invitational. Illig took 3rd place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.31, which is best in the SLIAC and the 15th best among D3 runners this spring. She also was on the 4x400 relay team which took 2nd place at the meet with a time of 4:05.49, a conference-best time.

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 2

Taylor Bent, Spalding University

Bent, a sophomore from LaGrange, Ky., set a school record in the hammer throw while competing in the Hanover Invitational last weekend. Bent threw a distance of 130'2", the second best distance in the event this spring. 

 

SLIAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 2

Brody Swan, Principia College

Swan, a junior from Edmond, Okla., racked up a 3-1 record last week for the Panthers. He registered a pair of singles wins and a doubles win during two team matches. Against Illinois Tech he won 6-3, 6-2 and he followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Lake Forest; with both matches coming at #5 singles. Swan added an 8-4 win at #3 doubles over Illinois Tech.

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 2

Monica Behrle, Webster University

Monica Behrle picks up her third SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week award after winning both matches last week for the Gorloks. Behrle, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., topped Westminster 6-3, 6-1 at the #1 singles position and then teamed with Madison Watts to win 8-2 in #1 doubles. Behrle has now won three straight in singles play and improves to 12-3 on the season.

  • Bailey Badger, Webster University (Track and Field) Set a school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 126'2".
  • Hayden Davenport, Spalding University (Baseball) Worked a complete game shutout, striking out nine in seven innings, against MacMurray.
  • Ben Dinter, Webster University (Baseball) Tallied four hits in a 7-6 win over Westminster.
  • Sean Hannan, Principia College (Baseball) Made two appearances in relief, picking up a win and a save while striking out 8 of 17 batters faced.
  • Lia Kruse, Greenville University (Track and Field) Put together a pair of career bests, competing in the 5K and 1500 meter race. 
  • Cameron Mitchell, Spalding University (Track and Field) Mitchell threw a conference-best 152'3" in the hammer throw, taking 4th place at the Hanover Invitational.
  • Kelsey Phillips, Spalding University (Track and Field) Set a school record in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 42:17.86. 
  • Katie Price, Westminster College (Softball) Had 11 strikeouts in a five-inning win over Mount Mary, allowing just two hits.
  • Ryan Schocker, Fontbonne University (Baseball) Finished with five hits and four runs batted in during a three-game series sweep of Eureka.
  • Madison Washington, Westminster College (Softball) Went 2-for-3 with six RBI in a win over Mount Mary.
  • Garrett Wilson, Spalding University (Baseball) Had seven hits in three games against MacMurray.
