SLIAC Players of the Week - May 7

The final weekly award winners for the SLIAC in baseball are Blake Strebler and Ian Cassidy from Westminster College.

   

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK - May 7

Blake Strebler, Westminster College

Strebler, a senior, helped the Blue Jays to a sweep of Principia; hitting .625 in the two-game series to close out the regular season. He notched two hits, to go along with a stolen base, in game one while driving in one run on a double. Strebler was 3-for-4 in game two with three runs scored and one RBI. He finished with five hits combined in the two games, going 5-for-8 at the plate, while slugging .875 in the series. 

     
   

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - May 7

Ian Cassidy, Westminster College

Cassidy, a junior, worked the first game of a doubleheader against Principia College; picking up a complete game shutout win for the Blue Jays. Cassidy went all seven innings of the contest, allowing just two hits while walking none and striking out 11. He retired the final 12 batters of the game while recording his team-leading 7th win of the year. His win helped the Blue Jays keep their winning streak alive, eventually closing out the regular season with seven consecutive wins.

     
     
     

Other Notables: 

  • Matt Mulhearn, Webster University (Baseball) Mulhearn went head-to-head in a battle of conference aces and came out on top with a 6-2 against Spalding. Mulhearn allowed two runs in seven innings while striking out 10 and walking none. 
  • Bryce Pearce, Greenville University (Baseball) Worked 6 2/3 of scoreless innings in a must-win game against Fontbonne.
  • Ryan Schocker, Fontbonne University (Baseball) Finished 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a pair of doubles against Greenville.
  • Luke Summers, Fontbonne University (Baseball) Summers set the program single-season record for strikeouts with 83, tallying seven in the regular season finale against Greenville.
  • Mike Wick, Webster University (Baseball) Went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI in a win over Spalding.
