AROUND THE SLIAC

Blackburn College

For the third straight year, the Beavers enter the final weeks of the regular season in the midst of a playoff spot for the men's basketball tournament. Blackburn is currently 8-6 in SLIAC play, tied for fourth in the standings. They are seeking their first postseason berth since 2006.

Eureka College

Despite missing the conference's leading scorer the Red Devils have responded with back to back wins and continue to challenge for the top spot in men's basketball. Eureka is 15-7 overall and 10-5 in conference play, good for second place in the standings. They will host Westminster on Saturday in their second to last home game of the season.

Fontbonne University

Last week Fontbonne not only teamed up with Greenville to set a new NCAA Division III Men's Basketball combined scoring record but the Griffins also set a new program record for points scored in that win. The Griffins 164 points topped the previous program record of 154 points, which was set in 1994 against St. Louis Christian College.

Greenville University

The Greenville men's basketball team continues to hold onto the top spot in the standings with a 10-4 conference record. The Panthers will host Blackburn tonight before hitting the road for two conference games. Greenville is looking to host their second straight SLIAC Tournament and have a half-game lead over the second-place team in the standings.

Iowa Wesleyan University

Matt Lewis of The Hawk Eye, a newspaper located in Burlington, Iowa, recently did a story on Iowa Wesleyan Women's Basketball Sister Act; the Massner sisters. To read his story on Allie and Darby Massner click HERE

MacMurray College

The MacMurray men's basketball team had their four-game winning streak snapped in a 146-140 loss to Greenville last Saturday. The Highlanders are two games back of the final spot for the conference tournament but do play three of their final four games at home as they look to sneak in.

Principia College

Principia has hit a bit of a slide lately, dropping four of their last five games and dropping below .500 during conference play for the first time this season. The Panthers will host Greenville this Saturday and need a win to keep hopes of a second straight conference tournament appearance alive.

Spalding University

The Spalding women's basketball is making a push for the postseason having won their last two games. The Golden Eagles are 7-6 in SLIAC play, good for fourth place in the standings by a half game over Westminster. Spalding will be on the road this week for two conference games as they face Webster and Blackburn.

Webster University

Webster University announced a schedule change for this week. The SLIAC basketball doubleheader against Spalding originally scheduled for tonight, Wednesday, has been pushed back one day and will now be played Thursday, February 8. The game was moved to help accommodate the travel of Spalding who will also play Blackburn on Saturday.

Westminster College

It is a race to the tournament for the Westminster women's basketball team. The Blue Jays are currently a half game out of the final playoff spot and will host Iowa Wesleyan tonight before hitting the road for contests against Eureka and MacMurray.
