SLIAC Weekly - Nov. 1

Blackburn College

The Blackburn volleyball team will be looking to close out their 2017 season on a winning streak. After defeating Eureka 3-2 in their final conference match of the season last Friday the Beavers will host Harris-Stowe tonight in their season finale. Against Eureka, Blackburn rallied from down 2-1 in sets and was led by Kendall Knop's 12 kills. 

Eureka College

Eureka College wraps up their 2017 volleyball season on Thursday with a road match against St. Mary of the Woods. The Red Devils completed conference play with a 3-0 sweep of MacMurray on Tuesday night. In that match Anna Crank finished with a team-high nine kills, adding 13 digs. Sara Worrell totaled 16 assists and McKenna Cleer had a team-high 15 digs.

Fontbonne University

For the first time since 2013, the Fontbonne University men's soccer team can call themselves SLIAC regular season champions. The Griffins finished the regular season with an 8-1 conference record, securing their first title since 2013. It is also their first outright title since 2008. The Griffins will be the top seed in the upcoming SLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament, which begins Wednesday night. 

Greenville University

The Greenville men's soccer team closed out their 2017 season with a 2-1 win over Blackburn. The Panthers used two first-half goals to take control of the game including a goal from Adam Jones just 18-minutes in to put them on the board. Edgar Bueno netted the team's second goal of the game. Greenville finishes the season 8-11 overall and 3-6 in the SLIAC.

Iowa Wesleyan University

Maxwell Trautmann helped the Tigers men's soccer team close out an impressive season with two wins last week while garnering the SLIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Trautmann scored two goals and had an assist in the two wins as the Tigers finish the year in 3rd place in the SLIAC standings with a 6-2-1 conference mark; going 10-7-2 overall.

MacMurray College

MacMurray senior Lyndi Saccaro closed out her Highlander career in memorable fashion, netting all five goals in her team's 5-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan. Saccaro finished her senior season with 14 goals and 2 assists for 30 total points. 

Principia College

For the second straight week, Principia sophomore Devon Marunde picked up SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors. Marunde totaled 64 digs in three matches last week, averaging 5.82 per set. Her top performance was a 29 dig outing against Spalding in which she added three block assists.

Spalding University

Spalding volleyball wrapped up their 2017 season with a tri-match last Saturday. With the conclusion of their season, it also means we say goodbye to Spalding Head Coach Bridget Yates, who is retiring after 20 years with the program. She finishes her coaching career with over 400 wins and was named the 2016 SLIAC Volleyball Coach of the Year. We wish Bridget the best in her future. 

Webster University

The Webster men's soccer team will be the #2 seed in this week's SLIAC Tournament. The Gorloks wrapped up the regular season with a 12-4-3 overall record and a 7-0-2 record in the SLIAC. Webster will face Principia College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. 

Westminster College

The Westminster men's soccer team grabbed the final spot into the 2017 SLIAC Tournament by defeating Eureka 4-1 last weekend. The Blue Jays will now have a chance to defend their four straight SLIAC Tournament Titles. They will be the #4 seed in this year's tournament and face top-seeded Fontbonne on Wednesday night.
