This week's Game of the Week is a meeting on the baseball diamond between SLIAC West Division teams Iowa Wesleyan University and Westminster College. The two teams will meet for a three-game weekend series beginning on Saturday in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa with the doubleheader being played on Sunday.

Iowa Wesleyan University 'TIGERS'

Iowa Wesleyan begins the week 4-14-1 overall and 2-5 in the SLIAC. They are set to play Cornell in a non-conference mid-week game before their weekend series against Westminster. The Tigers are hitting .236 as a team and average 5.4 runs per game this season.

Nick Salas is hitting .382 with 3 home runs and 15 RBI while carrying a .521 on-base percentage. Cullen Papenhagen is second on the team with 10 RBI while Jacob Leonard is hitting .268 with 13 runs scored and 9 RBI. Joe Morrison has thrown a team-high 27 innings this spring, gathering a 1-1 record with his 3.33 earned-run average. He also has a team-best 18 strikeouts. Everett Swinson has made seven starts, striking out 17 while the Tigers can also throw a pair of lefties in Clayton Lathen and Mitchell Wilcox. 

        

Westminster College 'BLUE JAYS'

Westminster is 5-7 overall this season and coming off a series loss to Webster, dropping their SLIAC mark to 1-2. The Blue Jays are hitting .285 as a team, ranking them 3rd in the SLIAC, and are scoring 5.8 runs per game. 

Branden Beeler is leading the Blue Jays offensive attack with a .405 average and a team-high 10 runs batted in. He has also drawn six walks and holds a .490 on-base percentage. Ryan Clavin and Ryan Klimkiewicz are both hitting .333 with 8 RBI this spring. On the mound, the Blue Jays will throw Ian Cassidy, who is 2-0 with a 2.52 earned-run average and 21 strikeouts. Mason Kirkweg and Skyler Dickneite have each started three games this year as well.

 

Last Series
Westminster took all three games of the season series last year against Iowa Wesleyan winning 9-8, in eight innings, 3-1, and 8-4. The Blue Jays needed to rally in game one, plating seven runs in the final four innings to overcome an 8-2 deficit. Ryan Clavin picked up the win in game two, limiting the Tigers to just two hits while the Blue Jays were able to outslug Iowa Wesleyan in the series finale 13 hits to 9.
