SLIAC Game of the Week: Brissman-Lundeen Invitational

 

At a Glance

This week's SLIAC Game of the Week is the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College. Five of nine SLIAC cross country programs will be headed to Rock Island, Illinois to compete in the weekend event. The Brissman-Lundeen Invitational features two separate men's and women's races and will take place at the Saukie Golf Course. The Gold race for the women will start at 3 p.m. with the men's Gold race at 3:45 p.m. The Blue women's race is at 4:30 p.m. and the Blue men's race is at 5:15 p.m.

Fontbonne University 'GRIFFINS'

The Griffins will be competing in their third race this fall but this will be the first time each program is extending their distance to the full length of 6K and 8K. They should be rested after taking last weekend off. The Griffins men's team is paced by the duo of Jacob Dixon and Austin Joyce. Dixon has a team-best tie of 24:11 this fall while Joyce's best time is just two seconds behind. The women's team is led by Desiree Brooks who has a best time of 19:24 while Sarah Rhoads has twice finished under 21-minutes in her previous two 4K races.

        

Iowa Wesleyan University 'TIGERS'

After the relaunch of the Tigers cross country programs this fall, Sierra Howardson has been the early highlight with a first-place finish in her collegiate debut nearly three weeks ago. Howardson finished with a time of 16:56 and will be looking to stretch her legs out and improve upon her 6K best time of 24:21 set two weeks ago. On the men's side, Joel Amor paces the team with a season-low time of 29:00 in the 8K.

 

MacMurray College 'HIGHLANDERS'

MacMurray continues their busy fall with a race in their fourth straight weekend. Zach Vespa has led the Highlanders so far with a team-best time of 27:53 last weekend while Gabriel Sherrill also broke the 29-minute mark in his 8K race. The women's team will be running in their first race longer than 5K this fall. Haley Alt led the team with a 25:01 mark while Lizzy Staub finished one spot behind with a time of 25:46. 

 

Principia College 'PANTHERS'

Principia will be returning to a meet after a week away but should be ready after having already competed in the same distances their last time out. The men's team is paced by Abe Ott, who ran a 28:04 mark while taking 5th place. On the women's side, the Panthers are coming off a 10th place finish at the Les Duke Invitational. Allegra Pierce had a team-best time of 27:15 while Emme Schaefer has the team's top individual finish this year with a 4th place spot. 

 

Webster University 'GORLOKS'

The Gorloks are in action for their second straight weekend. Freshman Colton Vaughn has mad a quick impression for the Gorloks, finishing as the team's top finisher in both of this fall's races. He completed his last race in 27:43, nearly two minutes faster than the next closest Gorlok. Kalleigh Linthicum has led the women's team with two top finishes including completing her last race, a 5K, in a time of 19:51.
