This week's SLIAC Game of the Week is a contest between two teams tied in the men's basketball standings as Fontbonne University visits Westminster College. Both Fontbonne and Westminster are 2-1 in SLIAC play this season, one game behind the first-place teams. Fontbonne University 'GRIFFINS'

Fontbonne begins the week with a 4-3 overall record and will face Washington-St. Louis on Tuesday night before taking on Westminster in their final conference game of the year. Fontbonne is coming off a 91-75 win over Principia and is averaging 80.0 points per game this season while shooting 50-percent as a team; best in the conference. 

Luke DeLine has been on a roll to start the season, averaging 21.4 points per game and twice already going over 30 points in a game this season. Jared Woodcock is the team's secondary scoring option, averaging 16.9 points per game while also ranking second in rebounding at 5.7 per game. Gus Kleekmap is averaging 8.1 points per game but doing so on 63-percent shooting, while also leading the team in rebounds (5.9) and assists (4.1) per game.

        

Westminster College 'BLUE JAYS'

Westminster will carry a 3-5 overall record into Saturday's showdown against Fontbonne. Westminster is coming off an 88-72 win over Eureka and after a slow start to the season have now won three of their last four games. The Blue Jays are averaging 72.3 points per game and have struggled shooting the ball so far, shooting just 42-percent as a team. They are sound with the ball, however, committing a league-low 12.6 turnovers per game. 

After missing last season Romo Tabb is back with the Blue Jays and is leading the team at 16.6 points per game. He is shooting 49-percent from the field and leads the team with 12 made three's; while also leading the team with 6.6 rebounds per game. Sharpshooter Kobe Wands is averaging 14.9 points per game but has yet to find his long-range stroke after finishing in the top ten in the league last year in both three's made and three-point percentage. Carter Wands is averaging 8.0 points per game and is 5th in the SLIAC with 29 assists. 

 

Last Meeting
Westminster took both games of the season series last year, winning 79-60 at home on January 3 and 75-60 on the road on February 3. Collin Caywood put up 29 points in the first win for Westminster while Kobe Wands dropped 32 points in the second game. Luke DeLine had 19 points in the first meeting while Jared Woodcock led the Griffins in game two with 15 points.

  • The all-time series between Fontbonne and Westminster is tied at 31 wins each with the Blue Jays having won five straight.
  • Griffin Luke DeLine leads the SLIAC with 28 made three-pointers and is hitting on 48-percent of his outside shots.
