Principia's Carney Wins USTA Indoor Nationals (Aug. 28, 2018)
Principia College's Head Women's Tennis coach, Shannon Carney, has brought home a lot of trophies this summer, however, she concluded her summer competition this past weekend when she won the USTA National 60 Indoors Championship, earning a USTA Gold Ball.....MORE

Panthers host 'Kicks For Kids' (Aug. 31, 2018)
Giving back to the local community has long been a tenant of the Greenville University Athletic Department. In addition to supplying the region with the opportunity to enjoy high-caliber athletic competition with the majority of its events free of admission charges, Greenville University, its student-athletes, and coaches have long been active in organized community outreach opportunities through area entities such as the Simple Room and other service-based efforts.....MORE

AROUND THE SLIAC

Blackburn College

Blackburn named Carlos Jimenez as their new head coach of the volleyball program. Jimenez comes to Blackburn after most recently serving as men's head coach and an assistant women's coach at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. He is a 2000 graduate of Western Washington University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in fitness and exercise science. 

Eureka College

The Eureka men's soccer team rallied for a thrilling 2-1 win over Lakeland in their 2018 season opener. After trailing 1-0 at halftime the Red Devils switched keepers, going with Alex Yates who made seven second-half saves en route to sparking the team to a win. Diego Cintora tallied the tying goal while Michael Hansen scored the game-winner at the 65-minute mark.

Fontbonne University

Fontbonne keeper Eric Volk was named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after playing all 180 minutes of the Griffins two games last weekend, making a total of 15 saves. Volk finished with a .789 save percentage on the week and had a high of eights saves against Aurora.

Greenville University

The Greenville men's soccer team recorded their second win of the season with an exciting 1-0 overtime victory over Rose Hulman. The lone goal of the game came off the foot of the Panthers Jared McPeek with just four minutes left in overtime. Nick Holland made two saves for Greenville as the team improved to 2-1 overall.

Iowa Wesleyan University

It was quite a return to competition for the Tigers cross country team as freshman Sierra Howardson ran her way to a first-place finish last weekend. Howardson finished the race in a time of 16:56, helping her team to a third-place team finish. The Tigers return to action this weekend in the Les Duke Invite in Grinnell, Iowa.

MacMurray College

The MacMurray volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of action in the Illinois College Tournament. The Highlanders won their season opener, 3-2 over Knox. MacMurray tallied 20 blocks in the win. They continued their net presence in the night's second match, a 3-2 loss to Culver-Stockton, recording 16 more blocks.

Principia College

Principia picked up an early season showdown on the volleyball court, defeating Greenville 3-2 on Tuesday night. Principia jumped out to an early start, taking the first two sets including winning the opener 25-11. However, Greenville fought their way back before Principia was able to finish off the win 15-9 in the fifth set. Hayden Warner had a team-high 14 kills for Principia.

Spalding University

First-year head coach Chenita Robinson picked up her first win with the Golden Eagles volleyball team, defeating Berea 3-1 last Saturday. Spalding won 25-16, 25-18, 17-25, 25-17. Morgan Berning led the way with 12 kills while Mya Summers added 28 assists and Dawson Kemme finished with 16 digs.

Webster University

The Webster men's soccer team defeated Minnesota-Morris 1-0 on Sunday, moving to 2-0 on the season. It marks the first time the team has won two straight games to open the year since the 1999 season. The Gorloks have won both games this season by identical 1-0 scores. They return to action on Thursday in their home opener against Harris-Stowe.

Westminster College

It didn't take long for Westminster women's soccer head coach Wendy Sanchez to pick up her first win as Blue Jays head coach. Sanchez and the Blue Jays topped Simpson 2-0 last weekend with goals from Natalie Schulte and Kate Ponder. Westminster is 1-1 this season and returns to action this weekend with games at Ozarks (Ark.) and Hendrix.
