Second Annual SLIAC Coaches vs. Cancer Totals Are In
The final numbers for the second annual St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Coaches vs. Cancer fundraising partnership have come in, with the conference raising nearly $2800 in donations conference wide.
Last season the SLIAC became the first conference at any NCAA level to sponsor a conference-wide partnership with the American Cancer Society, holding an annual Coaches vs. Cancer week. This past spring SLIAC schools held various collections during basketball games, raising money for cancer research. In addition, schools held ceremonies before games and at halftime to honor those who have battled cancer. Coaches of SLIAC basketball teams participated in the event by wearing sneakers during the games as well.
For the second straight year, Westminster College collected the most money, raising nearly $1800 during the week. Fontbonne University was second with over $800 collected. As a whole, the conference raised $2739 this year for Coaches vs. Cancer. Westminster will be presented with a traveling trophy for raising the most money.
Over two years the SLIAC has now raised over $6500 for the American Cancer Society during the Coaches vs. Cancer fundraising event. We ask that you help us in the fight against cancer once again next season.
Coaches vs. Cancer, founded in 1993, is a nationwide collaborative between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The initiative aims to increase cancer awareness, highlights the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing a person's cancer risk, and promotes the American Cancer Society's free programs and services available to those facing cancer. Since 1993, coaches have raised more than $100 million for the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer.
