MacMurray College Takes The "It's On Us" Pledge

April is sexual assault awareness month across the country and MacMurray College has taken the pledge in the nation-wide campaign. MacMurray will hold several events throughout the month to help raise awareness in the effort to end sexual assault and domestic violence on college campuses.

MacMurray College Assistant Athletic Director and Title IX director stated, "Our goal with this initiative was to promote awareness by spreading the word across our campus using the avenues of social media. By participating in this event faculty, staff, and students were able to take the pledge that IT IS ON US to create a safe, healthy, and supportive environment across our campus. Our ultimate goal is accountability as a campus with the understanding that bystander intervention is our strongest tool. Our hopes are these phases will resonate across social media as a reminder of that pledge and our commitment to our campus."

MacMurray will hold several consent talk sessions during the month; April 3, April 10, April 11, and April 12. In addition on April 11, MacMurray will be handing out sexual assault awareness cards and having student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and faculty join the pledge via social media. On Wednesday, April 19 MacMurray will be showing 'Thordis Elva and Tom Stranger: Our Story of rape and reconciliation', a Ted Talk, at the Thoresen Recital Hall.

On Thursday, April 27 MacMurray invites all members on campus to wear jeans as part of Denim Day; to make a social statement against the misconceptions that occur surrounding sexual assault and clothing. They will wrap up the month-long awareness effort that same day when the entire campus is invited to take the "It's On Us" pledge on Rutledge lawn at 12:05 p.m.

"We want to make people aware of sexual assault and unify our student body to help prevent it from happening. I am so happy that many of our students (athletes and non-athletes) are standing up in opposition of sexual assault," said MacMurray College Athletic Director Justin Fuhler.

The "It's On Us" campaign was created by the White House in 2014. For more information and how to take the pledge go to www.itsonus.org
