Iowa Wesleyan Students Recognized For Community Impact

Iowa Campus Compact (IACC) announced the recipients winners of the 2017 Engaged Campus Awards. Those nominated included students, organizations, faculty, staff and alumni who have built community-campus partnerships, community service programs, service-learning courses, and lead institutional engagement. More than 50 nominations were received from 14 colleges and universities across the state.

Iowa Wesleyan University had two groups nominated that received Honorable Mention awards.  The Student Nurses Association led by Co-Presidents Caitlin O'Neill (SR/Princeton, IA) and Stephanie Tillman, organized blood drives that take place twice a year on Iowa Wesleyan's Campus.  

Iowa Wesleyan's second group receiving Honorable Mention is the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  This group creates special events throughout the year.  One of the major events was the Southeastern Iowa Special Olympic Spring Games.  Eleven counties were represented with over 170 Special Olympic athletes and 200 volunteers participating.  These student groups are indeed impacting the community with their efforts.

"These honorees are using creativity, hard work and innovation to better connect communities and campuses in ways that deepen student learning and impact critical needs," said Executive Director Emily Shields.

Awards will be presented at the annual Engaged Campus Awards and Summit on May 3, 2017 at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden.
