SLIAC Women's Golf To Tee Off In Fall

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will debut Women's Golf as a sponsored sport in the fall of the 2017-18 academic year. Women's Golf will become the 15th sport sponsored by the conference joining Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Men's and Women's Soccer, Softball, Men's and Women's Tennis, Men's and Women's Track and Field, and Volleyball.

"The SLIAC is happy to announce that Women's Golf will be sponsored at a championship level starting in the 2017-18 academic year," said SLIAC Commissioner Angie Morenz. "A number of SLIAC institutions have sponsored Women's Golf on their campus but had to seek affiliate memberships in other conferences. It is time to bring those teams to the SLIAC. The Conference looks to grow and promote the sport by providing a quality culminating experience with the tournament, and the hope is that in the future the SLIAC will gain an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Tournament."

There are currently six institutions in the SLIAC that sponsor women's golf. Those schools are Eureka College, Fontbonne University, Iowa Wesleyan University, MacMurray College, Spalding University, and Westminster College.

The inaugural SLIAC Women's Golf Championship will be held October 23-24 at Aberdeen Golf in Eureka, Mo. Women's Golf was added as a NCAA Division III Championship sport in 2000 and is currently sponsored by nearly 200 Division III schools across the country.
