Westminster Announces Hall of Fame Class
Westminster College has announced their newest members to the Blue Jay Hall of Fame class. Those being inducted are Ehren Earlywine, Chris Pemberton, Cory Roper, Byron Schulte, and Danielle Shannon-Schaefer and together have 10 All-Conference awards over their careers.
Ehren Earleywine (1994) was both a player and coach for Westminster baseball and is the first of three Blue Jay baseball players to be inducted into the 2017 Hall of Fame class. As a player, Earleywine holds the single-game record for assists with 10. He was also a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference second-team pick in 1993, and a NAIA All-District 16 pick in 1992. Earleywine coached the Blue Jays from 1997-99, amassing a record of 63-44. He made the SLIAC Tournament each of his three years, winning the tournament in 1999. Earleywine is now the Head Coach for the University of Missouri Softball Team.
Chris Pemberton (1999) was a pitcher for the Blue Jays baseball team. He holds the single-game record for strikeouts, with 17 on two separate occasions. He currently holds the season record for strikeouts at 97 and is second all-time in complete games with seven. His other records include fifth all-time in career innings pitched (197.2), second in career strikeouts (204) and tied for second in career wins (17). Pemberton was a two-time St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference pick, earning a first-team nod in 1999 and placed on the second team in 1998. He was also an All-Conference academic pick in those years. In 1999, he also earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII first team. Pemberton is now a special education teacher at Hallsville Middle School and coaches the softball team.
Cory Roper (2001) is one of the best hitters in Westminster baseball program history, ranking in the top six of 14 different hitting categories in the record book. He holds the single-season record for total bases with 103 and ranks third in hits with 58, second in doubles with 17, fourth in slugging percentage at .720, fifth in on-base percentage at .514, sixth in home runs with eight, tied for fourth in runs with 44, and sixth in RBIs with 41. His career records include second in slugging percentage at .647, third in batting average at .369, tied for fourth in doubles with 33, fourth in triples with six, fourth in home runs with 20, fifth in hits with 139, fifth in total bases with 244, and fifth in on-base percentage at .450. Roper was named to the SLIAC first team twice in 2000 and 2001, along with being ABCA All-Region team twice. He is now the Senior Accountant at Daniel Jones & Associates.
Byron Schulte (2003), a men's soccer player, holds the career record for goals (49) and points (120), along with season and career records in shots (91, 251). He was a NSCAA All-Region second team selection in 2000 and third team in 1999, along with earning St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team honors all four of his years at Westminster. In 1999, he was named the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year. Schulte is now the VP of Mortgage Lending at Diamond Residential Mortgage.
Danielle Shannon-Schaefer (2008), a women's soccer player, holds the career record for goals for Westminster women's soccer with 41, along with the season record for shots (74) and the single-game record for assists (four). She was named the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year in '04, along with first-team honors and Academic All-Conference honors in '04, '05, and '06. She is now the 8th Grade American History Teacher at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Jefferson City.
