Morenz To Return To Blackburn, Stepping Down As Commissioner

Angie Morenz has announced her resignation as the Commissioner of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and will be returning to Blackburn College to serve in the role of Dean of Work, overseeing the Blackburn College work program.

"While I am happy to be returning to my alma mater to serve the students and campus as the Dean of Work, I will miss my time serving the 10 institutions of the SLIAC", said Morenz. "The last four years as SLIAC Commissioner have been a tremendous learning opportunity and a chance for personal and professional growth. I walk away with a deeper understanding of all the member schools, the work that happens in a conference office, and have a greater appreciation for the work of the NCAA on behalf of student-athletes. I want to thank the Conference for the support shown to me and thank everyone for the opportunity to build lasting relationships."

Morenz, who has served as the SLIAC Commissioner for the last four years, will be returning to her alma mater for a unique opportunity as the Dean of Work. Blackburn is one of just eight federally recognized Work College and the only work program managed by students. Among her new duties will be to advise, teach, and mentor work students and student leadership while managing all aspects of the work program. 

During her four year tenure with the SLIAC Morenz emphasized a conference-wide effort in professional development, assisting in grant applications to attend numerous NCAA national conventions from students to administrators. Morenz also led the charge in diversity and inclusion, serving as a member of the Women Leaders in College Sports. Morenz also served on the NCAA Division III Volleyball Regional Committee and represented the conference at NCAA meetings.

Morenz' last day with the SLIAC will be on Friday, March 2nd. The SLIAC will be conducting a national search with Brian Lovellette, the SLIAC Director of Athletic Communication, serving as interim commissioner until the position is filled.
