Fontbonne Announces 2018 Hall of Fame Inductees
The Fontbonne University Athletics Department is pleased to announce the 2018 Hall of Fame Inductees.
This year, Pat McCoy (men's basketball), Kate Evers (softball, women's basketball, track and field), Meghan Mulvihill-Taylor (women's basketball) and Kendra Schilli (women's soccer, women's basketball) will join the Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 12th.
"Every year we award the highest honor Fontbonne Athletics can give through our Hall of Fame," said Director of Athletics Maria Buckel. "This year's class is not only high in number but also in talent. Meghan, Kate, Patrick, and Kendra had stellar careers representing Fontbonne on and off the competition site."
"Kate and Kendra also did so playing more than one sport, which is no easy feat. We are proud to have Meghan, Kate, Patrick, and Kendra still representing us as Fontbonne alumni and excited to celebrate their accomplishments during their tenure at Fontbonne. Congratulations to each of them and welcome to the elite club that calls themselves Fontbonne Hall of Famers."
McCoy, combined for 1,480 points in his career with the Griffins and that currently ranks him 12th all time.
"One of the best life decisions I've made was coming to Fontbonne," said McCoy. "I was quite surprised by the honor. Fontbonne basketball has always been a part of my life and still is to this day."
"Coming out of high school, Fontbonne was one of the last colleges to look at me," added McCoy. The minute I got to meet coach his staff was sold. Coach McKinney was not only my coach but was more like a family member. I felt comfortable from the minute I stepped on campus. Coach was always a man of his word and never let me down. Along with a great time, came a lot of wins and for that, I will be forever grateful for my Fontbonne Family."
He also ranks first in consecutive free throws made (42), was named the 2007 SLIAC All-Tournament Most Valuable Player, is a two-time SLIAC All-Conference Second Team honoree and picked a 2005-06 SLIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention award.
Overall, he appeared in 102 games, shot 43.4 percent from the floor, drained 242 3-pointers and hit 223 free throws. McCoy accounted for 326 rebounds, 417 assists and averaged 14.5 points per game.
Evers, was a three-sport athlete with the Griffins, competing on the softball, women's basketball and track and field teams.
"It's humbling to know that my name will be on display in the hallway I walked down for four years to get to: 6 a.m., practices, games, workouts in the weight room, the training room and the track I was sent up to run laps so many times," said Evers.
"When I found out that I was selected for the Hall of Fame, I thought, "Wow! That's really cool" Knowing that my hard work, dedication, and talent is being recognized along side the other inductees is exciting and rewarding. I'm very thankful to receive this honor."
She added, "As I reflect back on my time at Fontbonne, never once did being in the Hall of Fame occur to me. I only wanted to do what I loved doing every day with my teammates. I wanted to play basketball and softball to the best of my abilities and have fun while doing it. I know I succeeded at the fun part, (ask any of my teammates), and I'm pretty sure that, with the help of my coaches and teammates, I played my best. Being selected is something I will forever be proud of and it will always bring a smile to my face. I will also use this as proof to my kids that my glory days did, in fact, exist."
On the diamond, she was a four-time all-conference selectee, including picking up first-team honors three times. She was also named to the All-Region Team all four seasons.
At the dish, she was a .374 career hitter, totaled 125 runs scored, 167 hits, 25 doubles, eight triples, five homers, 82 RBI and 106 stolen bases.
On the court, Evers was just as successful. She ranks second all-time with 262 steals and was a three-time all-conference selectee. Statistically, Evers, appeared in 101 games, shot 42.0 percent from the floor, grabbed down 385 boards, totaled 277 assists, 81 blocks, and 411 points.
Mulvihill-Taylor, meanwhile, had an illustrious career on the court. She was named to the all-conference team each of her four seasons, averaged 11.3 points per game, and totaled 1,146 career points which places her fourth all-time. She ranks fourth in 3-pointers (180), third in assists (341) and second in 3-point percentage (38.29).
"When Maureen called I was really surprised as it's a great honor inducted to be inducted into the Fontbonne Hall of Fame," said Mulvihill-Taylor. "My time playing basketball is something I look fondly back on, fortunate to play for great coaches and be on wonderful teams. My goal was just to contribute while playing and this is a reflection of myself and teammates I played with. We had great success but because of contributions from everyone and I was happy to be a part of it."
Schilli, was a two-sport athlete and she was able to find success on the pitch and court. While on the women's soccer team, Schilli was a four-year letter winner, appeared in 73 games, totaling 48 goals, 36 assists and 132 points, all ranking her first all-time. She was a three-time SLIAC All-Conference selectee and a four-time SLIAC All-Tournament honoree.
On the court, Schilli totaled 107 games, shot 41.4 percent from the field, totaled 614 rebounds, 248 assists, 179 steals and 649 points. She ranks third all-time with 100 attempted free throws in a season, while her 200 rebounds during the 2009-10 campaign places her ninth overall.
"When I found out that I was going to be inducted into the Fontbonne Hall of Fame, my overall reaction was pure joy," said Schilli. "What a fantastic way to end a memorable part of my career and life."
