Iowa Wesleyan Honored By Mount Pleasant For Volunteer Efforts

Main Street Mount Pleasant nominated Iowa Wesleyan student-athletes for Main Street Partner of the Year for all of the hours the student-athletes spent volunteering at events this fall.  On Friday, April 13th, Main Street Iowa announced that the student-athletes had won Main Street Partner of the Year, and they presented the award at the Main Street Iowa Awards Celebration in Des Moines, Iowa.

"Because Learning and Community is one of our core values, I think it is only fitting that we find ways to be get involved in the community. Main Street Mount Pleasant and the Chamber have been great to partner with as we invest our time in the community," said Derek Zander, Director of Athletics at Iowa Wesleyan.

Iowa Wesleyan student-athletes were seen at various Chamber events throughout the year.  Members of the women's basketball team helped serve chili at the Chili Cook Off. The men's basketball team volunteered at Pints in the Park and the Farm to Table Event.  Members of the Iowa Wesleyan athletic department also participated at the Rock Around the Block and Witch Way to Main events hosted by the Chamber.

Zander continued, "Having our student-athletes be seen outside of competition by our community members is great for everyone. Our student-athletes get to meet a lot of great people, and the community is able to have a connection to a member of Tiger Athletics when they come to watch a game."
