SAAC Makes Second Annual Visit To The Hope Lodge
For the second consecutive year members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council visited The Hope Lodge, a facility run by the American Cancer Society. Student-athletes from six St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools came together to spend the day with patients and their families staying at The Hope Lodge.
The Hope Lodge offers cancer patients and their caregivers a free place to stay when they are receiving treatment. Many patients are hundreds of miles from The Hope Lodge, which is completely free of cost to the patients and their families. There are more than 30 Hope Lodges throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
The SLIAC student-athletes served lunch and ate with patients and their family members, as well as putting puzzles together and conversing. The student-athletes also made welcome bags for when patients check in and wrote encouragement cards.
The SLIAC SAAC has partnered conference-wide with the American Cancer Society to direct all funds raised during the annual Coaches vs. Cancer campaign to go to The Hope Lodge.
As part of the SLIAC Student-Athlete Advisory Council members look to enhance the image of student-athletes both on campus and in the community through engaging in campus and community service projects and to serve as positive role models for their peers and younger athletes. The committee also serves as a voice for issues that involve rules, regulations, and policies that affect student-athletes.
