Baxter Named Eureka Media Relations Coordinator

Blake Baxter has been named Media Relations Coordinator at Eureka College, EC announced Monday.

In this role, he will oversee all media relations for the College, including the department of athletics, coordinating College-wide communication initiatives and serving as EC's direct contact for local, regional and national media.

He succeeds EC Athletic Director Bryan Moore, who filled the role from 2016 to 2018. A 2013 E.C graduate with a bachelor's degree in communication, Baxter played soccer for the Red Devils and made 62 career appearances – tied for seventh most in program history. He was also a student worker in the athletic department under Moore for four years.

"We're very excited for Blake to join us as our Media Relations Coordinator," Moore said. "As a graduate of Eureka College and a former NCAA Division III student-athlete, Blake brings a valuable perspective to our communications staff. He is a very talented professional and will be a fantastic addition to the campus community."

Baxter returns to EC after spending the past four years working full-time in the journalism field, primarily covering high school and college sports in Iowa and Nebraska.

He was most recently a western Iowa sports reporter and digital editor for the Omaha World-Herald and The Daily Nonpareil in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Previously, he was sports editor of Vinton Newspapers in Vinton, Iowa, where he covered local sports and news, and produced a feature-length documentary. He has received multiple writing and reporting awards for his work.

"After several years away, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to return to my alma mater with a new perspective," Baxter said. "My academic, athletic and extracurricular experiences at Eureka College played an integral role in shaping who I am and what I'm passionate about today. I can't wait to start shining a light on all the exciting stories and events taking place 'neath the elms."
