Westminster's Thompson Honored With Athletic Trainer Service Award

Westminster Director of Sports Medicine and Performance Josh Thompson was named a recipient of the 2019 Athletic Trainer Service Award from the National Athletic Trainer Association.

The Athletic Trainer Service award recognizes NATA members for their contributions to the athletic training profession as a volunteer at the local and state levels. Recipients must have at least 20 years of service.

Thompson joined the Westminster College athletic staff as head of athletic training and performance in August of 2005 and is a 2000 graduate of Westminster College, earning his undergraduate degrees in sports medicine/athletic training, secondary education, and physical education. In 2002, he completed his Masters of Education in Health Promotion and Education from the University of Cincinnati. Prior to coming to Westminster, Thompson served as the Head of Athletic Training and Departmental Safety Coordinator at Hendrix College for three years. He received his National Athletic Trainers' Association BOC certification in 2000.

This award adds to Thompson's impressive list of achievements, including the 2016 NCAA Division III National Athletic Trainer of the Year, awarded by the National Athletic Trainers' Association. In 2015, Thompson received the William T. Griffin Award from the NATA for his outstanding leadership in legislative advocacy, and in 2009, Thompson was named the Missouri Athletic Trainers' Association (MoATA) Athletic Trainer of the Year.
