MacMurray Takes Lead On SLIAC/SAAC Challenge

MacMurray College has jumped in front in the conference-wide race of the SLIAC/SAAC Challenge. MacMurray was the only school in the conference to reach double figures in points for the winter season, totaling 10,840 points from November through February. That gives MacMurray a total of 29,401 points for the year, pushing them atop the SLIAC/SAAC Challenge. MacMurray has won five straight challenge awards, which recognizes the school that gives back to their community the most throughout an academic year.

Iowa Wesleyan University is just behind with 28,806 points, nearly passing their point total from all of last year. Greenville University and Principia College follow in the standings, with both reaching double digits in points while Fontbonne University and Webster University round out the conference's top six.

The biggest joint event held by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference during the winter season is the conference's Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser. This year conference school's raised over $1500 in donations, which will go directly to The Hope Lodge-St. Louis, an arm of the American Cancer Society. That brings the conference's total to $10,000 over the four-year partnership with the American Cancer Society.

The SLIAC/SAAC Service Award was established in 2013 with the goal of recognizing an institution that went above and beyond in giving back to their community. In 2016 the SLIAC expanded the award criteria to include community service projects, collections (food and clothing), and donations. Full criteria and the point system is listed below:

10 pts/ service hour per student-athlete
5 pts/item donation (clothes, shoes, toys, games, equipment)
1 pt/ $1.00
1 pt/ per 2 cans
