SLIAC Players of the Week - March 11

   

SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week
Jonathan Hoevelmann, Fontbonne University

Jonathan Hoevelmann powered the Griffins offense, which averaged over nine runs per game, to five wins last week. The senior from St. Louis, Mo. hit .522 on the week while scoring 11 runs. He put together three multi-hit games including a four-hit effort against Trine. Hoevelmann scored a run in all five wins while also adding two home runs and four RBI in the six games. He also swiped 10 bases and struck out just twice while drawing four walks.

     
   

SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Luke Summers, Fontbonne University

Luke Summers, a junior, continued his dominance on the mound for the Griffins in picking up the conference's weekly pitching award. Summers tacked on two more wins last week including a complete game win over St. Scholastica. In that outing, he went 7 innings and allowed just one run and two hits while striking out 11. In his earlier start in the week Summers worked 7 innings and allowed no runs while striking out 11. For the week he finished with a 0.64 earned-run average and 22 strikeouts compared to just two walks in 14 innings pitched.

     
   

SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week
Abby Booker, Spalding University

Booker, a sophomore infielder at Spalding University, is the Softball Hitter of the Week. Booker helped the Golden Eagles open their 2019 season with a pair of wins. She recorded a hit while scoring a run, in the team's season-opening 7-6 win over Medaille. She followed with a 2-for-2 performance against SUNY Poly, driving in the tying and go-ahead runs for Spalding in a 7-2 win.

     
   

SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week
Chloe Skorija, Spalding University

Skorija claims the Pitcher of the Week award after notching a win in her collegiate pitching debut, a 7-2 win over SUNY Poly. Skorija, a freshman from Lake in the Hill, Ill., worked 7 innings and allowed one earned run with five hits while striking out two. 

     
   

SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Daniel Gomez, Principia College

Gomez, from Bogota, Colombia, takes his second weekly award this season. The junior remained undefeated in singles play this season, picking up two more wins at the Panthers' top spot. He won 6-2, 6-0 over Grinnell and blanked Truman State 6-0, 6-0. He also added a doubles win over Truman State with his partner Brody Swan. 

     
   

SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Paige Cooley, Principia College

Paige Cooley takes home her second straight weekly award after tacking on four more wins last week. Cooley rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lewis and Clark and added a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kaskaskia. She also recorded victories at #1 doubles, with Gabby Kitchingman.
