Webster Athletics to Celebrate D3 Week

Webster Athletics to Celebrate D3 Week

Like many other NCAA Division III schools, Webster University will celebrate NCAA Division III next week, April 1-7 as the Gorlok student-athletes will take part in several activities throughout the week.

NCAA Division III Week is an opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and in the surrounding Webster Groves community.

So what exactly is Division III Week?

As explained by the NCAA, "Introduced in 2010, Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community. During the week, every Division III school and conference office is encouraged to conduct a type of outreach activity that falls into one of three categories: academic accomplishment; athletic experience; or leadership/community service/campus involvement."

Among the things Webster's student-athletes are doing is participating in a free night at Swing-A-Round Fun Town on Monday, April 1 from 7-9 p.m. Swing-A-Round Town features go-karting, mini golf, batting cages, bumper cars and an indoor playground. If inclement weather forces Monday's event to be postponed, the rain date is scheduled for April 15.

This year's final event of Division III Week for Webster's student-athletes will be on Wednesday, April 3 as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be hosting a Faculty/Staff Appreciation Breakfast from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. in the Sunnen Lounge inside the University Center. The breakfast is open to the entire University community.

In addition to those two planned activities, two of Webster's athletic teams have home events next week and the university community is encouraged to attend those events to show their support for Webster's student-athletes.

Division III Week home athletic events schedule for Webster's athletic teams.

Wednesday, April 3– Baseball vs. Rhodes College (DH) @12 p.m. (GCS Credit Union Ballpark)

Saturday, April 6– Women's Tennis vs. Westminster (Mo.) College @10 a.m. (Webster Groves Tennis Center)

The members of the Webster SAAC encourage the entire campus community to come out to each and every one of these events this week and help the Gorloks celebrate Division III Week.
