Gundy and Tossick Selected As SLIAC Post-Graduate Scholarship Winners

Heidi Gundy and Matt Tossick were selected as the 2019 recipients of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Post-Graduate Scholarship. The SLIAC Post Graduate Scholarship is presented to two graduating senior student-athletes each year.  Student-athletes are nominated by their institution's Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), must have earned two varsity letters in a sport in which the Conference sponsors a Championship and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Scholarship recipients are selected through a vote of the Conference FARs and receive a scholarship during their first two years of postgraduate studies.

Heidi Gundy was a four-year member of the Westminster College women's soccer program and will be graduating this spring with a degree in Exercise Science. The senior from Columbia, Mo. carries a 4.0 grade-point average and will be attending the University of Missouri: Sinclair's Accelerated Nursing Program after graduation from Westminster. On the playing field, Gundy was a team captain and helped the Blue Jays to a pair of SLIAC Tournament titles including this past fall. Following her senior season this fall she was named First Team All-Conference and First Team Academic All-District. She also became just the second Blue Jay to receive CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Outside of soccer Gundy has been a work-study employee and intern in the Westminster Athletic Training Department since 2015. In addition, Gundy has worked with Kid's Across America as a nurse's aid for the last two summers and as a volunteer coach with the YMCA youth soccer league. Gundy is also involved with Special Olympics, Special Services, and the Super Sam Foundation.

Matt Tossick is currently in the midst of his final season as a member of the Fontbonne University baseball team. The senior from Quincy, Ill., is a Biology major with a Chemistry minor and holds a 3.9 grade-point average. In addition to being a member of the Griffins baseball team he currently works as a medical scribe in the Emergency Department at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Charles, Mo. He does not keep his love of science to himself, serving as a Biology tutor for the last two years at Fontbonne included helping with summer classes. He has served as a student ambassador for three years and is an active member in the Tri Beta Biology Club, serving as the president last year. He is also a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa Honors Society and Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society. Even with his extensive academic success and organizations Tossick still finds time to volunteer in the community. He has been a visible participant in the Griffins community service efforts, joining a group that works the Shining Tree Lot, which benefits the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments, and the Pedal for the Cause, where proceeds go towards the Siteman Cancer Center. Upon graduation from Fontbonne, Tossick plans on attending a medical school.
