Luth leads well-rounded attack, Storm top Iowa Wesleyan in four

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Jacqueline Luth had 19 kills -- including 15 in the final two sets -- leading three Simpson players in double figures, and the Storm beat Iowa Wesleyan in four sets Tuesday, 25-17, 21-25, 25-17, 25-17.

Quiet during the first two sets, Luth came alive late to help the Storm (9-11) snap a three match losing streak. Elisa Wildy had a monster match with 15 kills and a .483 hitting percentage and Niki Dean added 10 kills.

Simpson trailed early in sets one and four. Iowa Wesleyan led 8-3 in set one and 6-2 in set four before big runs put the Storm in control. A 9-0 run propelled Simpson to a win in the first set and a 6-0 run put the match out of reach in set four. Wildy had three straight kills to close the fourth-set rally and put Simpson ahead 15-9 in the deciding set.

Setter Alyssa Mathews had a season-high 47 assists, adding a team-high 14 digs for her sixth double-double of the season and third in as many matches.

Cassandra Schwamborn had 11 kills and Sydney Ellsworth added nine for the Tigers (6-17), who dropped their sixth match in a row. The duo combined for eight kills in Iowa Wesleyan's 25-21 win in set two.

Simpson and Iowa Wesleyan will meet one more time this season, at the Augustana Pumpkin Bash in Rock Island, Ill. on Oct. 28.
