Baseball sweeps SLIAC doubleheader from Fontbonne

GREENVILLE, Ill -- The baseball team evened their conference record at 3-3 with a sweep of Fontbonne on Tuesday in Greenville.  The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to gain a 3-2 game one win before taking the nightcap 7-5.

Fontbonne grabbed the early advantage in game one with a first inning homer.  Jesse Getz gave Greenville a lead off home run in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit in half.

In their last at bat, Travis Ralls hit a two-run single to give Greenville the win.

Pitcher Bryce Pearce went all seven innings, permitting two earned runs, and he improved to 1-1 with the win.

Game two saw Fontbonne score once in their opening at bat.  In the bottom of the first, Shane Olmsted gave Greenville a run when his hit was misplayed by the centerfielder.  Greenville tacked on another run via Klaiton Wolff's sacrifice fly.

A five-run second inning was all Greenville needed for the rest of the night.

In Greenville's five run second, Adam Lamb and Ralls posted RBI singles, followed by Mike Hardin's two-run home run.  The Panthers got another run via a passed ball.

Fontbonne rallied with a pair of runs in the eighth and ninth innings.

Austin Marsh gained the win on the mound as he improved his mark to 2-2.  He pitched into the seventh innning and permitted three runs, two earned, on six hits and four walks.

The Panthers (11-11, 3-3 SLIAC) travel to Blackburn on Friday.
