MEMPHIS - Westminster women's basketball dropped a 63-50 game against Dallas in the second game of the Rhodes tournament. 

Westminster falls to 1-4 overall. 

"This was a lesson in mental preparation for competition," said Westminster Head Coach Tracey Braden. "We learned that you can't rest on what we did yesterday."

The Blue Jays led after the first quarter 16-12 on five points from Andrea Zalis, who opened the game with a layup. 

An 8-0 run by Dallas evened the score at 20 with five minutes left in the half. Westminster answered with an 8-0 run of its own on four points from Mirrakohl Johnson and four points from Zalis to close out the half 28-22 with Westminster on top. 

A layup from Payton Beeler at the 6:55 mark of the third quarter put the Blue Jays up by double digits for the first time in the game. 

The Bearcats went on a 9-0 run to bring themselves back within one point of Westminster, and eventually took their first lead of the game with 1:07 remaining in the third. 

Dallas opened the fourth quarter on a 14-0 run to open the lead to 58-43. It wasn't until Zalis hit a pair of freethrows at the 2:49 mark that the Blue Jays were able to record a point in the fourth. 

Westminster closed out the game with a 63-50 deficit. 

"We must play hard, play smart, and play together each night," said Braden. I made some mistakes too, I need to do a better job of making adjustments. We hope to use this experience as conference play opens Wednesday."

Zalis led the team with 15 points while Johnson recorded 13 points and eight rebounds. Kelsey Ray tallied seven assists.

Westminster opens SLIAC play Wednesday with a 6 p.m. game against Fontbonne at home.
